BSG 4.12: "A Disquiet Follows My Soul"
Jan. 24th, 2009 01:55 pmLet's get this out of the way first: SQUEEEEEEEE! The ending was awesome. Awww. (Heh, "I'll be with the president." You sure will, Bill...) Of course, this means something HORRIBLE is going to happen soon, I'm sure. I wonder when Roslin's going to kick the bucket...
(Okay, one more thing: when Zarek kept referring to "the Roslin-Adama administration," did anyone else have a wild moment of thinking, "They got MARRIED?!" before it kicked in that he was referring to the presidential/military pairing?)
Anyway. So, the episode itself. I think making the Cylons (the allies, anyway) so sympathetic for the past season worked against them for this episode; of course an alliance with full citizenship is worthwhile. They've been friendly, and now they want to give you jump drive tech. They can't resurrect anymore, so you're on the same playing field. It kind of took the wind out of the sails of the opposition and made them look like petulant whiners. Whether the individual ships have a right to resist the Cylons is an interesting question, but as an audience member, I find it difficult to be objective because I've been led to acceptance of the Cylons already.
Of course, I suppose the non-final four Cylons could be planning further destruction along with installing jump drives, but it's just hard to keep being suspicious at this point, with no planet to run to and Cavil & co. on their tails. I'm worn out with it. I imagine many of the colonials are as well.
There were lots of little time bombs planted in this episode. From the moment Six said, "All it has to do is be born," I could tell the Cylon kid won't be. I would put money on that if I had any to spare. That nurse looked very shifty. (Tangent: Six and Tigh being all lovey-dovey was kind of icky, sorry. Ew.) Another time bomb is Baltar's and his followers' anger at God. Personally, I would've thought Baltar more likely to turn nihilist and atheist before getting mad, but this is interesting. It's going to blow up in everyone's face soon enough, I'm sure.
And of course, there's Gaeta and Zarek fomenting rebellion. Gaeta, Gaeta, Gaeta. I expected better. Although I guess he's always had some major toaster-hatred. Unfortunately, this appears to be putting some nails in the coffin of my theory that Zarek is in fact the fifth Cylon, unless he is even more wily and counter-intuitive than I've been giving him credit for. Hmmm. I still can't accept that it's Ellen, I just can't. The idea fills me with disgust.
I do wonder if this impending civil war is the one that the military finally won't win. I have a dreadful feeling that the show is going to end with everyone dying horribly in space.
Oh, and also...what's with Adama's pills? And the constant toothbrushing? Something's going on there, I'm sure. Interesting that he starts taking pills just as Laura stops. Perhaps they're for high blood pressure, given the current stress of his job. But apparently they also taste bad. I wonder what condition has a treatment that tastes bad... (Another tangent: Bill, you left the shower running while you brushed your teeth. Aren't you guys running low on water, etc. by now?)
I did like Roslin's simple desire to live before she dies. She's earned it, and now that her role in the prophecy is over, it's time for her to step down. Of course, technically that would leave Zarek in command, and that's terrible to contemplate. Hey, is there another election any time soon?

Date: 2009-01-25 06:33 am (UTC)For me, it's a combination of happiness at finally seeing it, and sadness because it's almost certainly a signal that she's about to die. I figured pretty much from the miniseries that she wasn't going to make it out of the series alive, but it's still sad to contemplate.

Hee hee. I doubt all of you suggestions, alas, because on this show, death is always just around the corner. He probably has some dread disease.

Just a few nails. Not all of them. You never know - that guy can be pretty devious. There's always hope. I can't think of Ellen as the 5th, either. It's just awful.
From the moment Six said, "All it has to do is be born," I could tell the Cylon kid won't be.
Yup. Giant red flag there. Also - um, shouldn't Six look a lot more pregnant if the fetus is that well-defined on the ultrasound?

My former housemate was a compulsive toothbrush pusher when she was stressed. That's what I thought of, LOL. I can't think of any specific med reactions that leave a bad taste.

Date: 2009-01-25 06:36 am (UTC)Someone on TWOP pointed out that most of the Colonials haven't been privy to pretty much anything that's happened in the past four years, and so their xenophobia hasn't been tempered by the alliance, etc. I can get that intellectually, but it's still hard to really care about their position.

I'm curious if there are more than five, and if Cally, Billy, and other dead folks are all Cylons too.

It was well-defined? The nurse was pointing out stuff, but I was with Tigh--it looked like blobs to me.

I'm starting to wonder if he's the dying leader. Maybe a heart condition?

Date: 2009-01-25 01:49 pm (UTC)I wish I was kidding.
Between those lamisodes and the season premier, I've pretty much given up on the show. So much over the top angst and 'grittiness' these days, and I just don't care about anyone except Helo, Athena and Hera any more.
And as far as Ellen being the final Cylon, I wasn't buying it either...until I read a really horrible interview with Ron Moore where he explained his 'reasoning.' Something about Ellen and Saul being a great couple. Again--wish I was joking.
(Though THAT makes me suspect that Ron Moore's Robot Chicken cameo, and the explanation for Cylon reveals given there, was not a joke after all...)

I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE HE IS A LYING LIAR WHOSE PANTS ARE ON FIRE. And that Ellen is not the fifth.
