B5: Season 5, Episodes 5-8

So...this episode was kind of like Karate Kid in space, wasn't it? With added foreshadowing about how the Minbari never back down from a fight? (Gee, I wonder what might happen in a later episode!) I think it's probably a bad sign when your episode title is the same as one from an old Voyager episode.
I liked the Minbari whose inner voice told jokes. And the sleeping Pak'ma'rah Ranger. And that Delenn has obviously mastered the art of the cold shoulder. Heh. I would've gone crazy wondering what the big secret was if I were watching this in real time.
Strange Relations
There's really only one thing that needs to be said about this episode. WHY DID NO ONE WARN ME ABOUT THE SINGING? MY GOD, PEOPLE. There should be HAZMAT LABELS for that!
And Lyta. Poor, poor Lyta. She's totally being brainwashed into Byron's little cult. Whose hangout looks suspiciously like a vampire boudoir. This cannot end well.
Two good things about the episode: I actually quite like Lochley. I'm glad it wasn't just because I was fourteen and stupid when I saw her on Crusade. Tracey Scoggins is a little stiff, but it is her first season, I suppose. She is the Jonas Quinn, but she's pretty good in her own right. I would've adored seeing Ivanova take Sheridan's place, Lochley take Ivanova's place, and the two of themsnark work together. It would've been awesome.
(Although, come to think of it, according to the intarwebs, Ivanova staying would've meant Ivanova taking Lyta's place as Byron's sex slave, and that thought makes me physically ill. It is the one and only thing that makes me glad she didn't stick around.)
Anyway, the other thing I liked was G'Kar becoming Londo's bodyguard, and them arguing over who gets the aisle seat in the spaceliner. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Awesome.
Secrets of the Soul
Again, only one thing needs to be said: NO ONE WARNED ME THAT LYTA APPARENTLY HAS MINDSEX WITH EVERYONE IN THE CULT. WHY DID NO ONE WARN ME ABOUT THIS? AAAAHHHHHHH.
Uh, so it was with this episode that I started speeding through everything Byron-related. Well, okay, I sped through the singing in the last episode, but I'm officially giving up on this arc now. I'm just...not watching any more of it. It's too horrible.
But Zack was jealous, and that was kind of cute.
Day of the Dead
OMG. NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT PENN AND TELLER, EITHER. It was only because this episode was written by Neil Gaiman that I didn't just give up in disgust at this point. GOD. I sped through their so-called "humor" as well.
Three things:
- Lochley used to be a junkie? Wow. I didn't expect that.
- Lennier! And Morden! That...was not a ghost I expected him to call up. Um. And alas, I feel certain that Morden's warning is going to come true. This makes me very sad.
- Definitely did not expect Kosh to speak from beyond the dead. That message he gave...I wonder if it's instructions for the journey Sheridan takes in "Sleeping in Light," or if there's a more immediate application.

Date: 2009-05-29 05:50 am (UTC)(Well, maybe Stephen was kind of okay when he got there. Daddy issues, naturally, but who DOESN'T have those on television?)
Also, Tracy Scoggins and her voice are too distinctive for me as Cat Grant The Incredibly Slutty Gossip Columnist in Lois & Clark, that I just bug-eyed at her the whole season going "OH MY GOD, IT'S CAT AND SHE'S NOW A SPACE CAPTAIN!!!"
It's amazing to me that Babylon 5 managed to take "kinky mind sex" and make it something that we did not actually want to happen at all.
Zack jealous is very sweet
and a pale shadow of TALIA/GARIBALDI but I will TAKE IT!.Also, the fact that Garibaldi didn't see Talia in "Day of the Dead" means there's a chance she's still alive somewhere y/y?

Date: 2009-05-29 04:00 pm (UTC)*snerk* Well, just a minute. There's...uh...Zack! Zack wasn't screwed up before he came on the show! And Vir! For that matter, even Lennier doesn't seem to have had a horrible childhood!
Um. Those...are the only ones in the credits who didn't something angsty happen to them before they came aboard, though, which is a bit disturbing. A Vorlon plot, perhaps?

The ones who have Mommy issues?

Oh my. Perhaps it's a good thing I never watched that show... (She shows up as a Captain of Evil in The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, too, which involved a bit of cognitive dissonance for me, as I'd seen her in Crusade prior.)

It IS.

*snicker* Poor, sweet, jealous Zack.

Absolutely! And in my head, Ivanova's ship was somewhere near Brakir at this point in time, and Marcus TOTALLY showed up in her quarters that night. Whereupon she beat him up for dying for her. It's cathartic.
