I'm a-choiring musical knowledge.
Sep. 3rd, 2003 10:58 pm*points to subject* HarveyNick makes his prescence known again. Oh, what you have done to me,
theusual.
Anyway. First meeting of community choir for the year. No Doc Locke-isms as of yet, but I'll be bringing a notebook next time. Doc, by the way, is very closely related to HarveyNick. Puns all over the place.
We're doing harder stuff this year than last year, I swear. Last we we only had three languages (English, Latin, and Spanish). This year we have five. English, Latin, Spanish, BULGARIAN, and a South(?) African language called Xhosa.
Yeah.
So I get to figure out how to pronounce things like "vechernii zdrach" in the course of zipping around almost an entire octave. Wheeee. It's really pretty, though, or at least the part we did tonight is. Oh, and the Xhosa song is called "Dubula, Mfanandini." It's a dialogue with a honeybird. There are hand motions, body movements, and clapping involved. It does a lot of really cool rhythmic and melodic things, since the sopranos (moi) are imitating birds in places, but I can't pronounce any of it! I mean, really, you try saying "Dubula ngem fakadolo leyo, lumka!" I'm not even sure if I've spelled that right. But I think everything's gonna sound really, really good when we put it all together, so yay. :)
Oh, and one of the other songs? In English? "Tobacco Is a Wasting Weed." Yes, we were all cracking up.

Speaking of music,
tarzanic, you were so right. I...acquired...a few mp3s of October Project, and dude, they rock. I'll have to tell Valerie about them, since the CD she has of the band she had in high school sounds a lot like them.

Last day of writing center training tomorrow. (First and only week of getting paid for more than 2 hours, too. Heh. Apparently the most we'll ever get as online writing center tutors is 2.5 hours, and that during midterms and finals weeks.) Also have the Society for Creative Anachronism meeting, a poetry reading by Christopher Cessac, and a Humane Society Club meeting to attend after that. Meep. Have so totally overcommitted myself this year.
