B5: In the Beginning
Jun. 18th, 2009 11:01 pmOkay, I just realized that the Minbari belief in the transmigration of souls is completely and utterly Platonic. Minbari souls are a freaking Platonic form. I feel like an idiot. I really need to get around to reading The Republic someday soon.
- "The quiet ones change the world, and the loud ones take all the credit." Heh. JMS, you are such an INTJ.
- Thanks to this show, every time I hear the phrase "what do you want?" I startle a little. Argh.
- "He did far better with that question than I did." Oh, Londo. :(
- Whaaaat? Humans are many things, but "quiet," at least in the context of this show, is not one of them.
- Humans are speeeshul! (Yeah, ever since I read that article, I see it everywhere in this show. It's blatantly obvious once it's pointed out.)
- Huh. If I hadn't known that this was going to be about the Earth-Minbar war, that setup would've totally led me to think it was going to be about the Shadow war.
- Londo is so young! And his coat so unostentatious!
- The Minbari are wasps? (Don't bother them, they won't bother you.)
- Hi, Dukhat. (My GOD, he is tall.)
- So...the Rangers need a grant, basically, in order to continue operating?
- Delenn!
- Hello, scenes from "Atonement"!
- Eeek, a Vorlon! Oh, and it's Kosh!
- Er...are they implying something by having everyone with a speaking role on the Prometheus have a Southern accent?
- Is that a Minbari being played by Byron? *checks credits* It is! Where did they put all the hair? (Sorry.) The actor is actually not annoying when he's not playing Byron.
- Mmmm, culture clash!
- Aw, Londo should lead storytime at the local library.
- *sigh* Stupid humans.
- Ganya! Wait a minute, why does he have an accent when Susan doesn't? Are we going with the "she was sent from school to school and continent to continent to hide her telepathy and lost the accent along the way" explanation?
- WOW, Ivanova's hair is short!
- Oh, she's so young and hopeful with that earring. (I'm so glad they finally gave an explanation for that.) This was back when her life was only just starting to turn into a giant ball of suck, at one death into the five we know hit her the hardest.
- G'Kar, you are so crafty.
- Awww, Delenn gets scruples.
- BOTH Koshes! Whoa!
- Yay for Franklin's scruples!
- Awww, Ganya. :(
- Oh, Sheridan, there aren't going to be any orders coming.
- On the one hand--zero-grav blood balls! Nifty! On the other hand--ew.
- Sheridan reeeally likes those nukes, doesn't he?
- "Unless anyone else has a better idea oh please oh please oh please?" Heh. Poor Sheridan.
- Anna, before she got Shadow'd. :(
- Victory!
- Er. Is it bad that I didn't even think about the fact that they were sending out a distress signal before they annihilated the Black Star? I think Sheridan said, "Send a distress signal toward Earth," and I must have written it off as obviously not intended for the Minbari to understand.
- Oh, Londo. You're always in just the wrong place.
- Er...didn't what Sheridan repeated mean anything? Why are they fighting for two more years?
- Only 60,000 dead and you're talking about complete defeat? Dude, JMS, have you looked at the population of the world lately? Imagine what would happen if you extrapolated that 250 years and multiple colony worlds.
- That's a rather nice montage o' CGI Londo's narrating over. ("Humans are AWESOME!") And the music is nice, too. (I like the pipes over the scene in the palace immediately prior to the montage.) Did they get a new composer, or did the usual one just start composing decent music?
- Meep, Delenn just blew out the candle. :( (cf. "All My Dreams...")
- "We have always been here." The Vorlons kind of have two or three stock phrases, don't they?
- Hey, it's Sinclair!
- Oh, my, look at all those jump points opening.
- Uh...how the hell is choosing Sinclair "the truth pointing to itself"? I mean, I get how it works out, but how did that advice help Delenn, who is pretty much in the dark at this point, to chose him?
- Ah, here's where the transmigration of souls comes in. Damn, it was lucky Delenn picked him to question.
- Did we know at any point in the series that Delenn knew prior to going to B5 that she and Sinclair were related?
- Yay, Babylon 1! Which goes boom. Oops.
- Oh, and Londo's still a bit sleazy even when he's ancient.
- "Did they live happily ever after?" ...In a manner of speaking?
- Hmmm, so is Londo referring to that urn he/his keeper gave to David when he says that remains to be seen? Oh, wait, he means them being held prisoner from WWE. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT'S ALL ABOUT. You know, I'm just going to say it all has to do with that urn, seeing as this would be the right year for it, and wash my hands of the whole damn thing.
- That said, the fact that Londo was telling this story to the kids while John and Delenn were in a cell? CREEPY. Damn. JMS manages to bring the series-related creepy even in a movie that takes place both twelve years before and sixteen years after the series itself.
