So since Franklin says working on a cure for guinea pigs only saves guinea pigs, does that mean that even if they do find a cure for humans, all other mammalian life is going to die off because of this plague? Because wow, that SUCKS.

Even more sucktastic is that the virus is slowly killing humans a few at a time, and the five-year deadline is both the point where they think it's going to mutate to immediate lethality and the point by which everyone's going to be dead anyway.
