Hmmm. Well, after I got tired of staring at my thesis, I watched the pilot for Warehouse 13. It appears to be composed entirely of cliches.* Pete reminds me of a cross between John Crichton** and Agent Booth, with maybe a pinch of Garibaldi thrown in (it doesn't help that the guy who plays him also played Sully on Bones), although despite the lack of anything original about his character, he is quite charming. (I found Sully charming, too, so I'm betting it's the actor more than anything.)

Nevertheless, it's...not terrible? I've watched worse things, I suppose. I like that many of the artifacts owe an obvious debt to steampunk. Artie's keyboard took the cake. Wired has an article on the gadgets some of you might find interesting.

I guess I'll watch the rest of the episodes that are up on Hulu at some point. You know, in the copious free time I have right now. It might be entertaining until Castle comes back on, anyway...

* No, really, allow me to enumerate:
1.) By-the-book female paired with an intuitive, freewheeling male. (She's kind of like a really bitchy Scully; he's...well, not really Mulderish, but only because he's so freakin' cheerful.)
2.) Both of them have angsty, guilt-ridden pasts. (His father died young, and he might've been able to save him; she somehow got her boyfriend killed.)
3.) There is pastede on yay sexual tension. (There might be genuine chemistry under all the pastede onness. Maybe. It was hard to tell.)
3.) Older, technical whiz comic relief dude. (He's a bit like a more knowledgeable, less lecherous Frohike.)
4.) The warehouse is basically a steampunky Area 51.
5.) There's a mysterious lady in charge of things who is older than she looks. She wasn't smoking a cigarette, but I expected her to be doing so.
6.) If a conspiracy doesn't develop soon, I will eat my hat.

** Rockne S. O'Bannon appears to have had a hand in the creation of this. Why am I not surprised.

While being entirely cliches and barrowed plot points I'm having fun watching it. Which is wierd because the cliches and stolen plots is exactly why I never managed to watch more than 3 episodes of Fringe.

I like the artifacts as an idea (hopefully they won't let it get stale and formulaic too quickly) and I like the snarky hacker girl who joined the cast a couple episodes ago. And Artie, Artie is good.

I probably wouldn't have given Myka the benifit of the doubt if I hadn't really liked that actress when she was on Slings & Arrows, but I'm willing wait for a while and see if they make her a more 3-dimentional character.
