Grammar-whoring
Sep. 10th, 2003 05:03 pmSo we're reading Red Mars for Bio in Sci-Fi at the moment. Love the story, really enjoy reading the book, but I have one question. How the hell did this book win a Nebula Award with so frickin' many comma splices?!
*beats head against wall*
Every page. Every single page, there's at least one. It's driving me up a damned wall.

Amazing to think we had that much free time once upon a time.

Kind of shakes your faith in the publishing world doesn't it?
Oh, I haven't had any faith in the publishing world since I was about twelve, when I realized that I could've done a better job of proofreading the ST books I was reading at the time than the editors did.
And yet I still want to work in publishing...
And blurs the line between fan fiction and real fiction. ::sigh::
Oh, God... There's a shocking amount of fanfic that's actually better than a good percentage of published fiction. So, so sad.

I never went that far. I usually hit the back button if the grammatical errors got to be too much. ;)

Isn't it, though? And then it all went to hell when we started high school--it did for me, anyway...

All the really crappy fic probably doesn't help though, huh?

Date: 2003-09-11 09:21 am (UTC)It's intensely annoying. I don't think it's really any more special and creative to create your own characters than it is to make your own story by studying characters already created; they just take different sets of skills.

Yeeeeah. Tried reading JAG fic again a couple days ago. I'll never learn, will I?
