Michigan is not, however, "up north," generally speaking, any more than Arizona is usually considered "the south.
Michigan is so "up north" for me. Pretty much anything north of the Ohio River and out to...Montana, actually, is "up north." I have subcategories of "northeast" (Penn and up) and "midwest" (Ohio and west/north, also including Kansas and Missouri), but it's all pretty much north as far as I'm concerned.
Once I dig myself out from the assortment of papers I'm dealing with now...sigh. I don't even have a job and it never ends...
