Castle 2.21: "Den of Thieves"
Apr. 20th, 2010 03:57 pmOkay, I'm shallow, but the number one thing I took from this: they actually had a betting pool. BWAH! I find that utterly hilarious. You know Montgomery totally won, too, when they went a year without doing anything.
I was not really looking forward to the Beckett/Anders arc, but I think they're actually going to manage it well. It's hard to hate Anders, and it looks like Castle might actually learn something from it! And maybe make a move of some kind! I loved his sad little realization when he was playing poker with Alexis that he's "not used to losing." Oh, Castle. :(
Plus there's actually a reason for Beckett to be attracted to Demming over Castle--he's a cop, he actually seems fairly mature, he coaches basketball for underprivileged kids (and oh, how much did I love the snark when they announced that)... On paper, he's more compatible. Castle can still be kind of immature, even if he obviously is at least starting to adore her.
Other things I liked about the episode: We got more scenes with just Esposito, or Esposito and Ryan! I think it's wise that they're starting to develop those two some more. Not only are they fun, but making it more of an ensemble show will let them actually end the Castle/Beckett UST without completely changing the dynamic of the show, and I am ALL FOR THAT. 'Cause I don't think I could buy them not figuring it out for years and years. *coughcoughlikeBonescough* In fact, more than, say, another season without some significant movement forward is going to strain credibility for me.
Finally, the three boys running around investigating Demming on the sly? CLASSIC. Hee. I was actually totally shocked when they fingered him for the murder, but then again I was working off the knowledge he was going to be around for a while...

Date: 2010-04-21 02:57 am (UTC)I'm thrilled about Esposito and Ryan getting more focus, too. They really are great characters, and the way I figure it, the more the merrier. :)
I also rather liked how Castle didn't get all defensive and what not around Demming, and that they actually ::shock:: were able to *work together* and stuff without any (okay, so very little) posturing. Yeah, there was "I knew we couldn't trust him. He's too pretty" with Esposito and Ryan when they were doing suspect thing, but that was pretty much it.
Lastly, the "and this is my *other* partner, Castle" thing at the end was freaking adorable. I want to smish them. ::does smishy "they're so cuuuuute!" fingers for Castle, Esposito and Ryan::
Okay, don't rambling now. ::smishes some more and ponders re-watching the episode::

Date: 2010-04-21 03:43 am (UTC)This was so Ryan/Esposito heavy I was SURE one of them was going to die! Maybe I was having flashbacks to due South?

Date: 2010-04-21 11:38 pm (UTC)I loved that so much. These storylines can be so repetitive and dull when they go that route; this way, Beckett stands a chance of getting to see Castle *gasp* grow! Show his maturity! Shocker!

Maybe? I don't think either of them are going to die for at least another year. Hopefully not at all. It would smell like a ratings stunt, if they did, and that's never a good sign.
