Castle 2.23: "Overkill"

icepixieOof. Whoever was in charge of the music this time made a baaaad choice at the end. That needed some kind of unobtrusive, melancholy piano music, not rock music.
Largely, this felt like a part one. As with Bones's Sully, I quite like Demming even though he's obviously a dressed-up plot device. He seems to make Beckett happy, anyway. It's nice that, rather than being a mere relationship roadblock, he seems to be serving as a catalyst for Castle to do some self-reflection on what he actually feels for Beckett, and--dare I hope?--to become less of a jerk than he was in the first two-thirds or so of this episode. Ohhhh, that was no fun. The only parts that redeemed it were Beckett and Castle building theory together (not in an obnoxious way, just in their usual enthusiastic manner) while Demming looked on, and then Castle's ability to congratulate both Demming and Beckett on solving the case at the end. Oh, and him being all, "Nothing's wrong. Okay, actually, yes, something is wrong," and then running away from Martha was nice.
I liked Alexis offering revision notes on Castle's latest chapter. When I heard "Detective Schlemming," I was like, "Oh God, no," but they saved it with Alexis noting he'd come out of nowhere and Castle taking him out.
The best part, though, was totally Ryan slyly telling Castle that he was on to why Castle felt so jealous. Last week he was completely oblivious, but obviously once Esposito explained things, Ryan has taken it upon himself to be the obnoxious little kid teasing his older brother about said brother's quasi-girlfriend.
The worst part was hands down the crying lab assistant. Sorry, Beckett, despite your assertion that gender gives one translation skills, I'm female and I a.) did not understand her "Cry Talk," and b.) have never heard it in the wild with any friends of mine. I spent the whole scene wanting to stab the girl in the face.
