B5 Rewatch: 1x11, 1x12
Jun. 9th, 2010 11:31 pm1x11: Survivors
I fast forwarded through most of this. It was reasonably entertaining the first time through, but aside from some background chatter about Santiago's alien immigration policies, it doesn't really relate to the big arcs. Pretty much the only worthwhile bits are Garibaldi and Ivanova flirting at the beginning and Ivanova getting to be snarky at Kemmer. ("You are going to resist, I hope." Ooh, and "That will take the communications network down for several hours." / "Yes, I believe it will." Not to mention "I do not take demands...Request denied." She's so deliciously evil.)
1x12: Signs & Portents
I admit. I cried when Londo told Morden what he wanted. It was hard watching him take his first step down the road to hell. Oh, Londo. "We must all make our sacrifices" indeed.
And one of the saddest things about it is that he might not have even given that answer if Morden hadn't come at that particular time, when he was remembering how great the Republic used to be. (Well, okay, Morden probably would've needled it out of him at some point. But still. Excellent timing on his part, that's for sure.)
Meanwhile, G'Kar escapes Morden's clutches because his vision is not great enough: he wants revenge on the Centauri, but beyond that, he really just wants his people to be safe, rather than to rule over the galaxy. And thus we learn the value of moderation. ;)
And of course Kosh presumably tries to kill Morden. We come back to that incident, don't we? Maybe I'm thinking of another Kosh/Morden encounter.
Delenn, naturally, tells him to GTFO, and sees shadows come over him. (Her magical Grey Council head tattoo is a little weird, though.) Delenn certainly seems to be the most in the know of them all (except Kosh) at this point.
I'd forgotten we actually see a Shadow ship this early on. I thought that took until S2. (I also thought it took until the end of S1 for Morden to show up, so obviously I'm remembering S1 as being more useless than it actually was.)
Another thing I'd forgotten was...baby Corwin! With a mullet! Oh, Corwin. I'm so glad you got a haircut.
I can't remember if, when I first watched this episode, I thought Ladira's prophecy about B5 being destroyed was going to come true or not. I'm thinking not, but I was sort of spoiled that the big things got wrapped up in S4 and the station was obviously still around for there to be an S5, so.
*sigh* Oh, Londo.
