To no one's surprise, I chose to do:

10 Pieces of My Personal Canon for Susan Ivanova
  1. She takes both her tea and her coffee black. Sugar is for the weak.

  2. This is horribly Freudian, but I think it's also true: She really wants to recreate the level of intimacy she had with her mother with someone else, which leads to, well, a telepath kink, even though she also hates the Psi Corps. (I...just find it otherwise hard to fathom why she was interested in Talia.)

  3. That said, she really did love Talia towards the end. She had been more of a cynic for show rather than truly seeing the downside to everything, and Talia's betrayal made her very, very bitter.

  4. She's totally a hockey fan.

  5. She can't cook worth a damn, but she makes great salads.

  6. Her worst fear, aside from being found out by the Psi Corps, is being somehow unable to do her job.

  7. She'd like to be more observant of Jewish practices, but can never seem to find the time. (But in season four, she definitely invites everyone to a Seder, because she thinks they really need it.)

  8. According to Ganya at least, she was the perfect stereotypical bratty little sister when she was a kid, always tagging along after him and his friends even when he told her not to. When he pulled up the rope ladder to his treehouse, five-year-old Susan climbed the damn tree in order to listen in to whatever he was doing with his friends. When she inevitably fell off her perch and broke her arm, their parents made him allow her into the "boys only" treehouse. She was actually pretty bored by sports trading cards and whatever the 2230s version of Star Wars action figures was, but went years without admitting it because to do so would lessen her victory.

  9. She feels like this sonnet might just sum up her life in fourteen lines. (Though Akhmatova is more melancholy—and, of course, Russian—and she had to read Pushkin in school, Millay is her favorite poet. The sense of of love and joy as fleeting moments that pervades her work that appeals to her.)

  10. After "Sleeping in Light," she and Delenn discover they can be a lot more to each other than just co-workers. It's very different from what she felt for Talia or even Marcus, based more in loyalty and understanding than ephemeral passion and mystery, but strong and true all the same.

I also thought I'd do

10 Pieces of My Personal Canon for My Susan/Michael AU
  1. Neither of them intended this to become a relationship. They were supposed to stay friends who happened to sometimes have sex with each other. Both of them are romantics under their cynical/pessimistic veneer, so that didn't work out very well.

  2. Michael figured it out first, barely a couple months into their arrangement. Susan took a while longer, and then didn't admit it to herself until nearly a year had gone by.

  3. They each wish the other wouldn't take so many chances. They're each grateful the other doesn't try to wrap them in cotton wool. (Well, there was that time right after they found out she was pregnant, but she quickly taught him that that was not going to fly.)

  4. Until the Telepath War was over and the Psi Corps disbanded, they were both terrified that their daughter would manifest telepathic ability and they would have to hide her from the Corps. The fear that she might be a latent telepath was part of what took them to Minbar.

  5. She teases him about going nuts during the World Series, and he does the same during hockey playoffs.

  6. They don't talk about Bester. Ever.

  7. He once spent an evening cataloguing every spot on her body he loved, and by the end, he had added the embarrassed blush this produced, placing it near the top of the list.

  8. Every year on the anniversary of Marcus's death, she grows quiet and won't meet his eyes. He doesn't say anything, and the next day, things are back to the way they were.

  9. They took Sofie camping once. It rained the entire time. When they returned, they swore never to do it again.

  10. They are never going to live down that time her second found them making out in the Rangers' pike-fighting practice area after hours, but it was totally worth it.

I love love love your personal Susan canon. Especially, for some reason, the one about salads. Also, I think I am adopting #10 as my new canon, because -- I want both of them to be happy, and that's kind of perfect.

These are all perfect (tea, coffee, Ganya and his clubhouse, Delenn!!! and the telepath kink), but this:

Every year on the anniversary of Marcus's death, she grows quiet and won't meet his eyes. He doesn't say anything, and the next day, things are back to the way they were.

Makes me wobble in ways I don't have words for. ♥

Ohhhh, you totally should! We just got to that bit in the rewatch - I'm soooo far behind in my commentaries - and The Boy keeps saying "Ivanova's totally not going to survive this." He's seen the cover of the S5 DVDs and figured out Susan's not on them, so he thinks he's figured out why. I've so far managed not to let on that the truth is, in a way, so much worse than that...

I couldn't resist. He's convinced he called it. He had absolutely no concept of what's coming! And Marcus is his favorite character. "Poor Marcus," he said, after we finished the episode, meaning, you know, the mourning for Ivanova. He has no idea. And I don't want to tip him off by being like "Okay, we have to keep going!"

Besides, work has been nuts lately, he was feeling sick, and it was late. :P So yeah. The really crazy thing is, we have Swing tonight, and I have to finish the fic, so I have a feeling we won't be seeing the rest until the weekend. It's kind of boggling my mind. When I watched by myself, I think I watched the last five or six episodes all in a big marathon, minus the 20 minutes panicking about the end of "Between the Darkness and the Light."
