Grammatical grrr-age
Oct. 7th, 2003 12:03 amSo I'm editing my Irish Lit. essay and crossing out all instances of passive voice and the verb "to be" that I can, 'cause the English and History departments at this school are crazy anal about those two things. Personally, I don't get it. I love passive voice. It makes me happy. Kate tells me that lab reports are written almost entirely in passive voice, and I'm really, really jealous. I'm a big fan of is/am/are/will be/was/were/etc., too, and various complex constructions involving "to be." They sound good, and express nuances that action verbs don't always get, y'know?
