So I'm editing my Irish Lit. essay and crossing out all instances of passive voice and the verb "to be" that I can, 'cause the English and History departments at this school are crazy anal about those two things. Personally, I don't get it. I love passive voice. It makes me happy. Kate tells me that lab reports are written almost entirely in passive voice, and I'm really, really jealous. I'm a big fan of is/am/are/will be/was/were/etc., too, and various complex constructions involving "to be." They sound good, and express nuances that action verbs don't always get, y'know?

Arrrgh.

I love passive voice, too. Though writing is much simpler and easier to understand without it. Sigh.

The only way I write most times is in passive voice! For years the institution has tried to cure me of that, but NO! I WON'T LET GO OF IT! LOL. It's just way too easy for me to write in passive voice, and when I get lazy, which is a lot, it's passive voice for me! Well, except for this post. My brain must be awake, lol.
