icepixie: ([Fringe] Olivia in a hat)

Who knew that Jasika Nicole's website was full of such high-octane cuteness? Her drawings are so adorable. I don't exactly love the plotless stories in her webcomic, but the bit in "Morning" where she and her partner turn into "Super Queer" superheroes and chant "Roy G. Biv!" as some kind of superhero phrase is priceless. And the drawings are so cute. Plus the idea of a bona fide celebrity writing/drawing self-insert RPF, as in the comic where Kanye West comes to visit her and her girlfriend, is kind of hilarious.

(I have to admit that Astrid on Fringe still makes me scratch my head a bit. I love her personality, but I still don't understand why a junior FBI agent who specialized in linguistics/languages and cryptology is playing lab assistant to Walter. She's obviously stepped up to the plate, but could they not use her actual skills/education elsewhere? And much as she obviously likes Walter, Olivia, and Peter, why hasn't she said as much to her bosses?)

Yeah, there's really no reason Astrid is still working with Olivia and the gang. I kind of handwave it because I love her, and I love the way she plays off Walter, but someone with her expertise would be long gone by now.

Nothing to do with your post, but due to the Halloween episode of Chuck, i went investigating to see who did the last song they played on the episode. Turns out it was Dead Hearts by Stars, which is a Canadian indie-come-electronica group. As I was listening to some of the other songs they've done, I went "You know, I wonder if Becca would like these guys?" and so I thought I would bring them to your attention if you haven't already discovered them.

Their sound remind me of the few songs I've heard by The Weepies, though their lyrics are a slightly more popish (but only slightly). Dead Hearts is about ghosts, though, which is totally what won me over because Ghost Hunters owns my soul. The rest of the songs I've listened to so far sound pretty nifty too, though.

Just thought I would share. :)

Wow, so I totally over-used the word "though" a bit in that comment. Man, I wish LJ would let basic users edit their comments.

Dead Hearts is the highlight of the album, but I liked a few of the other songs as well (though not nearly as much). In the end there were about five songs I really didn't care for at all, about six I was "Not bad, I suppose I'll add this to my library", and then a handful that I was "Yay, I like it!"
