Today I put up my Christmas tree! (My parents and I used to share a big one, but about six or seven years ago, we amassed so many ornaments that we had to split off, kind of like yeast budding. The little tree is basically mine to do with as I please.)

Those of you who've been following this journal for some time may have noticed that I like birds. I like to take pictures of them. I like to identify them. I like to read poetry about them. I like to use them as themes for my own writing. So it should probably come as no shock that my Christmas tree is approximately 40% birds.

(Those of you who've been exchanging Christmas cards with me for several years will no doubt be unsurprised to see that most of my ornaments fall into the categories of songbirds, penguins, [polar] bears, or ice skates/skaters. It's good to have themes. :D)

This year, I took pictures. Under the cut are the ones I actually liked. There are many.

Four feet of glory.

Like I said, I've got lots of birds:

Quadruple-decker birds! And these are only a few.

Swan! Courtesy of Chandra.

The owl is new this year. HEARTS IN MY EYES.

Yes, I even have a bird in a cage.

And BALLS WITH BIRDS ON. These are actually at least fifty years old; they were my grandmother's.

The toucan helps me decorate. I kind of love this ornament.

And we have NOT EVEN STARTED ON THE PENGUINS, or for that matter the BEARS:

SPARKLE!PENGUINS.

Penguin on skis!

This was actually meant to be a picture of my tree-topper, but that was out of focus. It's a fabulous shot of the polar bear's butt, though.

And SKATES:

Here's my Art Deco Deer:

And assorted other shots:

That is a truly awesome tree! Other than the wonderful birds, I especially liked the icicles, and how dense and opulent it looks all combined :)

Awwwww, your tree's so pretty! We put ours up today, too, but it's kind of bare on account of The Boy's ornaments all being in storage and mine mostly being... somewhere that I can't find at the moment. Plus, having cats means the pretty glass ones are a teeny bit out of the question anyway, so *sigh*.

I love all the birds! They're so lovely.

That cardinal is looking at me like I owe him money.

(If only your little yeast-tree had a bread theme... or beer? lol)

Pretty! I actually kind of prefer trees that are decorated with a bit of a theme. If not animals/angels/whatever, I tend to oogle the trees that have all silver and gold lights and decorations, or all blue and purple/green and gold (for the Packer fans out there), etc. You know, kinda like organized. Randomness is awesome, too, but I do like me my complimentary colors.
