Knut the polar bear has died. Nobody seems to know yet what caused it.

In happier news, tonight's full moon is the biggest in eighteen years. It should be best visible around sunset. (Er, sorry to the 50+% of my flist for whom sunset was hours ago...)

It was clear here as well, but the moon didn't look any bigger than usual. Maybe a bit brighter.

Yeah, turns out 14% is not so much bigger as it sounds. :P The most impressive bit is always when it's right on the horizon, too, and we missed that by a good half hour thanks to a very wrong moonrise listing on the website I checked. D'oh.

I saw it when it was on the horizon--well, as close to the horizon as you can see it from my yard, which is surrounded by trees and the odd hill--and it still wasn't very impressive. I guess 14% isn't that much in this sort of thing, yeah... ;)
