Pictures, water, meme
May. 14th, 2011 01:12 pmTo make up for spamming you with BUGS last time, here are some flowers. (Fair warning: most of them are me screwing around with the pre-sets on my camera, so there are several shots of the same primrose bed from the same angle in "Expressive" or "Pinhole Camera" or whatever mode.)

We also have BABY ROBINS. The first batch (there's another pair with a nest in the back yard who just laid eggs) have arrived at the "cute balls of fluff" stage from the "wow, you can really tell birds are related to dinosaurs—the ugly ones" stage. Here they are being very fluffy and cute and crammed into their nest.

In other news, apparently the entire lower Mississippi is TAKING OVER THE WORLD. I saw an article speculate on the possibility of this flood being the one to make the Mississippi jump its banks and start sending most of its water through the Atchafalaya River, but I've also seen US Army Corps people and others who would have reason to know being interviewed saying that they don't think that'll happen. There is also this very interesting page on the assorted measures that have been used over the past century to keep the Miss. on its present course.

Finally, a meme from

Give me a character, and I will tell you about a happy moment in their lives.
God knows I love writing happy, fluffy fic snippets, so I anticipate this will be highly entertaining!

Date: 2011-05-17 01:12 am (UTC)One of Myka's happiest memories is of reading Possession the summer she was nineteen, curled up in the window seat of her parents' book store. It was, perhaps, the perfect book for her at that age, half of it being devoted to the Victorians she couldn't get enough of in her English classes, and the other half to people who read their books and poetry for a living, but still managed to have adventures and fall in love. She wanted her life to be like that--perhaps not in the specifics, but in the general outline. As she read, feeling like she was not just reading the words but breathing them in, just as she breathed in the smell of paper and ink from the store, she would occasionally drift into a daydream of the excitement that kind of life would hold. She couldn't wait to embrace it.
