Monday Night at the Humane Society

This episode featured a sighting of that rare animal, Grown-Up Pete! Wow! It was magical! Okay, I'm being sarcastic, but post-S1 Pete is really my least favorite character on the show, and I'm always pleased when we get glimpses of the competent adult he was for what I saw of S1. And grown-up Pete was here for the whole episode! Excellent!
I wasn't too into Myka's storyline, largely because I didn't remember anything about Sam from the pilot beyond the fact that he existed, and also because when Joanne Kelly plays "upset" her voice tends to rise to a pitch that makes me grind my teeth together. However, it did showcase the very nice brother/sister vibe she has with Pete, which was all for the good.
Claudia, Steve, and Artie's plotline was more entertaining. Oh, I wish Claudia'd been able to get a picture of Artie and the dog with their matching hats, because that was hilarious. Plus there was Pavlov's bell! And the dog running after the scarab (Southern Sally's bugs from the painting last week, I suppose?), and they're KEEPING THE DOGGIE! YES! AWWWWWW! That really was a cute dog. I hope we see him/her every once in a while.
And now they're on to Southern Sally's schemes, hooray!
Rizzoli & Isles
Well, they managed to take the inherently interesting topic of the Salem witch trials and make it duller than dishwater. Uh...congrats?
But we aren't here for the plots, we're here for Jane and Maura acting like they're married, and we got quite a bit of it this time! I laughed long and hard at Mama Rizzoli bugging Jane about having kids while Jane was having breakfast with Maura. Because obviously Maura should be in on discussions of that topic. Also, with the way they were attached at the hip, I was surprised Lily didn't ask if Maura was also her aunt.
That said, I found the Frankie could be a father!!! storyline completely pointless, but whatever. I guess they had to give the guy something to do that didn't involve begging to be involved in detective work. (Heh, did anyone else catch Frost calling Frankie the new guy and telling him to break down the door near the end? Speaking of Frost, he just gets more likeable with each episode. He likes horror films!)
Korsak got to rescue another kitty. Awww. It was animal adoption night on TV!
Final question: Why was a seven-year-old drinking from a sippy cup? I'm pretty sure I'd moved on to the same glasses (made of glass) that everyone else used by age four, and I don't think that was unusual.

Also, considering Tamaro writes every damn episode and does editing and a bunch of other stuff, I really shouldn't have to wonder if she actually watches the show. Because in season 1, Jane told Maura that her biggest childhood fear was witches - her parents took her to Salem when she was a kid, and she was so scared she had to sleep with a nightlight from that point on. And now it was her favorite field trip and she went six times? Um, okay.
I loved the Jane/Maura scenes. It is now canon that Maura is so much a part of the Rizzoli family that not only is she automatically invited to all family gatherings, but she hosts them. Married, married, married.
Also, I love how much Maura knows about witchcraft and the occult. It makes me lol, because in the circles I run in, if you want to meet gay girls, you don't go to any LGBT groups (which are almost exclusively men), you go to wherever the pagans are.

Frankie has been annoying the hell out of me this season. I think it's the constant begging to be detective without actually appearing to have done anything warranting a promotion, and the constant dogging of Jane's footsteps. It seems like his only motivation to be a cop, his only motivation to be a homicide detective is "to be like Jane." If he does make detective, which I hope doesn't happen for a long time, I want him to go be awesome in, like, Robbery or something and develop his own identity more. Although my sudden dislike of him may also have something to do with the sudden spate of Maura/Frankie fic and the awful, awful Maura/Frankie fans (some of whom, I'm sure, are lovely, despite being het shippers, but all the ones I've came across are very much not).

Yeah, that was weird. Barring any legit medical reasons (like the dyspraxia that made me (to my shame, and to the delight of grade school bullies) have to use a lidded cup until I was, like, 10), it was a very odd note. It makes me think maybe that Lily was supposed to be younger when the episode was written, and they just aged the role up a bit when Jordan Bridges' real-life daughter was cast.
And that cat? The cutest thing I've seen until I watched Warehouse 13 later.
Warehouse 13 mostly bored me this episode, but Artie and the dog in matching hats was hilarious, and the dog was just so freaking cute.

I dunno, I can see him wanting to get out of the patrolling-and-writing-traffic-tickets level and into something more interesting just because traffic duty sucks and detective work is more interesting, but I agree that his motivation for police work in general seems to boil down to "be like Jane."
I too would like to see him as a detective in another division--Robbery, Vice, whatever. Although that may be more of a function of being sick to DEATH of shows about homicide cops.
Maura/FRANKIE? REALLY? I...but...what? Maura/Frost I could actually see--they would be kind of adorable together--but she's had almost no scenes with Frankie. Buh?
It makes me think maybe that Lily was supposed to be younger when the episode was written, and they just aged the role up a bit when Jordan Bridges' real-life daughter was cast.
Yeah, that would be sense. Although they could still have gotten DNA from a regular cup, so nothing would have to be rewritten. Weird.

The A plot was pretty dull, yeah. I got what they were trying to do with showing how Myka had grown or whatever, but...eh. On the other hand, did you ever watch Wonderfalls? I realized yesterday that Myka's boyfriend was the same guy who played Poor Bitch, whose ex-wife COINCIDENTALLY winds up pursing a relationship with Sharon! Hmmm.

The only thing that took away from the plot for me, though, was that I knew who the bad guy was the second I saw him because of a role he played on Charmed. Oh well.

Also, I just realized that in both plots, the purple gloves couldn't protect Pete or Steve from the effects of the artifact. Foreshadowing or coincidence?

He played one of the more memorable bad guys on Burn Notice last year, though for some reason it never occurred to me to think of him as the bad guy here until they revealed it.

I know! Well, I could kind of see him as a dog person, but I definitely didn't expect him to give in that quickly.

Since this is the first time it's happened and it happened twice, I'm going to go with foreshadowing. Maybe something to do with the spy bugs...
