Sep. 14th, 2011 05:00 pmFive questions from
foursweatervests:
1. Who got you into Northern Exposure in the first place, and how?
I don't think there was a who. I have an extremely dim memory of watching a few episodes with my dad when I was maybe twelve (this would've been about a year after the last season ended), just because we were both in the living room and he was flipping through channels, but I'm not absolutely certain I didn't just see commercials for the reruns while we were watching something else and have embroidered the memory since then.
I got into it for real when I was in my junior or senior year of high school, around 2001. Reruns aired every weekday morning while I was at school, so I would tape them and watch them after I got home. I honestly don't remember why I started doing that; it must have been a conscious decision, because they were never on at a time when I would've just been flipping through channels and have run across it, but I have no idea why I decided to start watching. It's like the universe was guiding me to my Platonic Show. Which is rather fitting, really.
*pause* Okay, I just went through the archives of a mailing list I posted to around that time (Farscape-Shippers, OMG!), and though I can't tell for sure, it looks like I might have gotten into Moonlighting reruns first (because I wanted to see for myself what the "Moonlighting curse" was, since so many people in wider Farscape fandom were invoking it to campaign against resolving John & Aeryn's UST), and from there, because I freaking loved Moonlighting, went looking for similar shows, leading me to NX. Maybe? I dunno. Mostly I just can't believe this was all more than ten years ago...
2. If you were forced to cultivate a garden with only one type of flower, what would it be?
Heh. I don't actually garden, I just take pictures, so I'd pick something that requires little to no maintenance. Like a cactus. Or rocks.
3. Describe your dream job! You must use words such as "fantabulous" and "bric-a-brac".
Goer-On of Fantabulous Adventures and Explorer of Fabtastic Places. Said adventures and explorations would include wonderous new lands, animals, and people to photograph and bric-a-brac to trade for. At the same time, they would always include indoor plumbing.
4. Favorite children's book/series?
Huh. It's been a really long time since I read a children's book. Maybe Trumpet of the Swan?
5. Under what circumstances would you willingly shave your head?
Money. Minimum price of $5,000.
Comment and I'll give you five more.

In other news, have a music rec: Sort Of (Instrumental) - Ingrid Michaelson.
I heard it in a Google Chrome advertisement about a week ago (argh, Google commercials should not make me want to weep!), and immediately bought the track. I've had the one with lyrics for a while, but the instrumental is much better. "368 plays in my iTunes since last Thursday" kind of better.

Date: 2011-09-15 09:44 am (UTC)(I did not. I spent most of last year teaching and grading and lesson planning and wishing I could read a book, or watch a half-hour of television. The only show I managed to keep up with was Archer, and probably only because it has so short a season. So I guess that's on my library list, too!)
