Hooray! After the incredible bad sides of last week, this was excellent! Okay, my head still hurts from the anvils that were dropped on it in the last couple minutes, but I'll just ignore that. Beckett and Castle were geeking out together about superhero comics! The case was complex and intriguing! Officer Hastings was awesome! "I did NOT see that coming," indeed.

I rolled my eyes a bit at Alexis's dilemma of the week, because it seems way too dumb for her, but whatever, at least they didn't spend a lot of time on it and she came to her senses by the end of the episode. I would be more okay with everyone-except-Castle being okay with her flitting off to Stanford to join Ashley if there had been some indication before of her wanting to go there, or at least to that kind of college environment or area of the country. Before Ashley, didn't she want to go to Oxford or Princeton or something like that?

...I totally have a feeling they're going to break up in less than a month and she won't be going to Stanford.

Anyway, back to the good stuff: I repeat, Castle and Beckett getting their geek on simultaneously! Ryan coming up with a superhero story! (I so want the episode where he asks Castle to read his manuscript.) Esposito thinking it's all totally lame until it turns out there's a cop behind the mask! The victim's mother being kind of drolly hilarious about it all! Yay, show. Please do more like this. Hell, dump your entire Beckett's mother arc in favor of more like this for all I care.

So much better! It was funny and entertaining and unexpected and I didn't wander off once!

Except for Alexis's stupidity. That's non-canon. And yeah, they're totally gonna break up soon, just because she said they never will.

Since when does Beckett call Esposito "Espo"? And:

Ryan: "Don't you want to be a superhero?"
Esposito: "I'm a cop. I AM a superhero."
Ryan: :::eyes turn into little hearts:::

The rain of anvils at the end was a bit much, yes. How dumb do the writers think we are? But despite that, this really is the kind of episode they do best.

Or maybe she has an evil twin who took over for most of the episode.

If Ashley is sucking her personality out like this, they can't break up soon enough.

And I bet she won't get into Stanford.

Haha, yup! Although I was all, "Whyyyyy do you want to go to expensive Standford a semester early when you can get another semester of freeeee education in high school??" and then I realized, oh wait, she probably goes to a private high school that's about the same price tag...

But that's the audience they write these things for, I think.

Good lord. If they're writing to YouTube commenters, we might as well seppuku ourselves out of the television audience right now.

But there's always Fringe to restore our faith in television!

How do we live in a universe where Fringe gets to exist??

Indeed! So much better than the "meh" of last week. GEEKS ARE HOT!
