Unlike the previous two outings, both filmed this season, this one is a leftover from S1, and it shows. It was good again! Well, okay, "good" is probably a stretch when referring to this show, but it didn't make me want to turn the TV off halfway through.

Though it did start kind of insanely, with the new FBI dude actually asking Megan to come along to the crime scene. I...um...yeah. I suppose it makes a change from the FBI interloper character immediately having professional squabbles and tension with the local criminal justice community. (On the other hand, plausibility.) For extra squick: I got the impression that he only did it because he thought she was attractive, which was only reinforced when he asked her out at the end of the episode.

But but but Ethan and Curtis got to figure out who the kidnapper was all on their own, and that made me so happy!

Ohhhh, Bud. This is why I hate kidnapping plots; the characters get so! into! it! OMG! that they lose their professionalism.

...Wait, was that Megan and Peter having a real fight over something that didn't have to do with her personal life?

Really appreciated the scene with Megan, Kate, Ethan, and Curtis all working together on the body, with no personal conflicts intervening. (In fact, the entire episode, Megan only got off one, extremely minor snarky remark to Kate about Todd. It makes it sad that this was filmed before last week's, not after, because if it were after, it would give me hope that they're going to let that plot fade into the background.)

Peter and Bud are fighting over Bud's conduct as well? It is my lucky day for conflict that's actually relevant to something besides who's sleeping with whom!

DUDE, JOAN. I'm totally with Megan here; using that newspaper photo of you and Megan from the day her father died in your campaign materials--over what appears to be several years or decades--is just...wow. That's harsh, man. Are you actually a robot? Do you not have any emotions whatsoever?

Awwwwwww, Peter's been usurped as Megan's sidekick! And Curtis finds this amusing, of course. Yeah, the whole office knows Peter totally has a crush.

Uhhhh, did Megan really just talk down an extremely emotional family member?

Whoa, is that Peter's office? So many new things tonight!

FBI dude, why are you letting Megan tag along with the SWAT team to where you think they're holding the boy? She doesn't even have a Kevlar vest like the rest of you! (Castle needs to give her the number of the person who made his "WRITER" vest so she can have one with her job title on it made for her.) Eh, drink more, think less. Last week was worse.

Good for you, Bud, on not killing the suspect.

It's so very handy to have a judge for a mother...

Okay, I did have to mute the bit where Megan got her judgy-judge on at the accomplice. I'm glad they at least stopped doing that this season...

Bwahahaha, yeah, turn him down, Megan! Although honestly, even if she had accepted FBI dude's invitation, since he didn't appear in the previous two episodes, I'm guessing whatever might have happened or will happen (I think Ames is supposed to be back for another episode that was filmed last spring?) won't last.

Awww, Megan ran not-very-far away when her dad killed himself!

Megan: You helped because you lost me for four hours?
Joan: I lost you for thirty years.

Can...can we have more of this? Because this is basically the only interpersonal story I like on this show. (Aside from the epic UST between Megan and Peter, anyway.)

And then after that heartfelt moment, Joan asks Megan to campaign for her re-election. I...think that was supposed to be a joke? But I'm not sure. I'm kind of hoping it wasn't, because despite how awful it would make Joan, it would also make her even more interesting.

Ultimately, though this was decent, what I mostly got excited about was the preview for next week, which featured this conversation:

Megan: You are so comfortable delving into my personal life.
Peter: That's just our thing, I guess.
Megan: You and I have a thing?

Yes, yes indeed you have a thing. And it's adorable.
