Have I mentioned lately how happy I am that there exists a show where the epic romance is key to the very sci-fi story arc? Because I love that. And I love Olivia, and Peter, and Olivia/Peter. Thus, this vid.

Sweet and simple and it made me smile. The song was beautiful and the editing was equally lovely. :)

Also, the epic romance that is key to the sci-fi plot is one of the reasons why I love this show as well.

I remember watching S2 (...basically all at once) and S3 and just growing more and more amazed by how integral the romance was to Olivia's powers, the machine, and the war between the universes. So many other SF stories throw in a romance because they think they need one on the side, or spend all their time preventing one from growing. It's incredibly refreshing to see a show not only giving a love story the same level of development as any other important plot point, but making so much of the rest of the story arc depend on it.

I've never heard of the band before, but methinks I need to check them out. (My RL friends ask me where I find all this awesome music...I don't have the guts to tell them it's from all the epic fanvids I watch on youtube.)

This. Because way too often, it's like the writers of sci-fi's think they have to slap it on the main plot in order to keep people invested. Which in my opinion, they don't if they do their jobs right. Good shows shouldn't necessarily need a romantic B plot to be good. But a well-written romantic arc skillfully written into an already intriguing A plot? That's like icing on the cake for me.

What boggles my mind with Fringe is the fact that throughout the whole first season, during all the interviews with the cast, directors, writers, etc, practically everyone (or everyone I was listening to, and yes, I'm looking at you, Joshua Jackson) was saying, 'they'll never get together', 'I don't think they should get together', 'it's completely platonic' or 'they're like family', which is pretty normal for a 'will they, won't they' type show. It was one of the reasons I was only catching an episode here and an episode there. Except then season two rolls around and suddenly it's instrumental to the plot. And...I just don't get all the denial during S1, unless they don't have things as well planned out as I wish they did.

(Heck, at one point in season three, Sam even tells Nina that the fate of the universes depends on which Olivia Peter chooses.)

You can listen to basically everything they've ever recorded at Grooveshark. They haven't ever made a bad song, IMO, but some of my favorites are "Pacific Street," "Redwing," "Strays," "He Came to Meet Me," "Half Acre," and "Leave Me Here." /pimping :D

And...I just don't get all the denial during S1, unless they don't have things as well planned out as I wish they did.

Wasn't there quite a bit of creative turn-over at the end of S1? I seem to recall reading that Abrams and several others left to make other shows then. Maybe things changed. I don't think they'll give us a horrible downer ending where Peter/Olivia is concerned, though; not only do so many of the episodes end rather hopefully for a series that can be kinda grim, but they probably know they'd have a bunch of pissed off fans beating down their metaphorical doors if they did. ;) Personally, I want an epilogue with Peter, Olivia, and the "little tribe of Bishops" he mentions in "The Day We Died." :D

I have to admit, that didn't thrill me. Here we were with this amazing woman who got all this agency and development (in both universes!), and suddenly the fate of the universe is reduced to which version of her the guy chooses? I was so glad that wasn't the case at all. (Heh, I might have cheered loudly at the point in the final trilogy last season when Nina says, "But I thought our universe was going to be okay because you and Peter are together!" and Olivia just gives her this look like, "Excuse me?")

But I really like that, for instance, Walternate couldn't have started the machine without Henry's blood, and Henry wouldn't have happened had Peter not loved Ourlivia and believed Fauxlivia to be her. And once the machine was started, Peter couldn't do anything on our side until Olivia unlocked it, and she can't use her powers unless she feels a specific combination of fear and love, which Peter provides. Sometimes I have a hard time believing there's a show on network TV that actually giving us things like that.
