Bad news about Fringe's chances for renewal.

Yeah, I get the impression pigs will ice skate in hell before the show gets a fifth season. I can't say as I'm surprised; disappointed, yes, but not surprised. Though maybe there will be a magical infusion of viewers next week? (Perhaps Walter could invent a machine that allows people with the Redverse equivalent of Nielsen boxes to be counted here! *g*) I suppose a cable or non-US network could pick it up for a short fifth season or something like that, but I wouldn't bet on it.

What worries me is that statement that the producers won't officially know it's been canceled until after they write the finale. Guys, I love you and your crazy cliffhangers, but the writing is on the wall, and I want a real ending. My heart cannot take something like the any of the previous three season finales without the promise of a resolution. Comic books, sad to say, don't count as proper endings for me. I want my resolution on film.

And I want it to include a little tribe of Bishops. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK???

I follow the TV by the Numbers blog, and yeah, I've been fully expecting this be Fringe's last season. They have terrible ratings. But, the thing is, by rights they should've actually been cancelled last year (when they also had the worst ratings on the network), and Fox isn't actually giving Fringe that much money anymore - from what I understand, it's currently mostly financed by Warner Brothers, who are the ones who actually got it renewed last year. There's also the consideration that basically every single one of Fox's new dramas failed this year and one of their old standbys (House) is possibly ending this season - and its also possibly Bones' final season. Because if House and Bones go, they may not want to finance that many new dramas for next season, especially since Terra Nova didn't do so hot (and is extremely expensive). So it's... weird and questionable what's going to happen to Fringe.

But if we don't get a real finale, I will not be happy.

I've been watching TV by the Numbers religiously too, so this wasn't a surprise to me. I agree with all you say--I was pleasantly astonished to get a fourth season, though between Kevin Reilly's crowing about the DVR numbers and the instability in Fox's schedule, I was getting my hopes for a fifth season up just a weensy bit. Like maybe there was a 1% chance instead of a 0% chance. Alas.
