No, really, Slonczewski apparently wrote a novel with precisely that premise. I...might have to read this.

The case was actually really intriguing (although apparently in the Castleverse, Barbara Ehrenreich never wrote Nickel and Dimed?), and I liked Gates for the first time! She and Beckett had an interaction that didn't make me cringe! Why couldn't we have had that scene where she talked about the police sergeant who assaulted her partner, and got to grandstand a little, but in a good way, about being objective even when the mayor is under suspicion about ten episodes earlier?

Martha doing Lear with full storm accompaniment was great. Wish we could've seen more of that.

Alexis's internship idea is going to bear very dull fruit in a couple weeks, isn't it? Sigh.

The only annoying part was Castle's continued lying to Beckett about the mysterious people who want him to keep her from investigating her mother's murder. The way that intersected with the "conspiracy" against the mayor would play so much better if Castle and Beckett were tackling it together. Ugh.

But hey, at least it was better than last week's.
