That did not suck as much as I expected it to from the preview! Actually, it was really fun, almost a throwback to the early episodes. And there were dogs! Incredibly charming dogs!
...Also Major Kira as a wacky dog therapist, which definitely raised the WTF factor of the episode, but anyway.
I was almost, aaaaaalmost taken in by the bit where Castle demonstrated the way to rub the dog's head on the back of Beckett's hand, and then kept doing it even after they had their little "Eek, I just realized we're having a moment here, what do I do?" freakout. If they got together in a random standalone episode, with absolutely no promotion or endless obvious buildup, that would actually go a long way toward restoring my respect for the show. But nope, another opportunity wasted. Sigh.
Next week is the 1940s episode! I know exactly how much of a gimmick it's bound to be, and yet I'm pretty sure I'll wind up loving it.
