Fringe 4.10: "Forced Perspective"
Jan. 27th, 2012 09:18 pmWell, that was COMPLETELY GODDAMN POINTLESS.
Seriously, show, you took an entire episode to give us one piece of information that we already knew, namely that the Observers exist at all times simultaneously, and then followed it up with Peter's assertion of something we already know to be wrong, namely that whatever an Observer sees must come to pass (c.f. "August," where in fact it does not)? You didn't even have the decency to give us an original standalone plot; most of this was lifted straight from "The Ghost Network," which would've been fine had you acknowledged that and tied it into the timeline snafu in some way, but as it stands it just looks kind of like you got lazy.
The Olivia and Nina stuff was interesting and mindbendy, but overshadowed by my sheer annoyance with the rest of the episode. Two thoughts, though: go Olivia for calling what happened to her "abuse," because IT SURE WAS, and ooooh, Nina is so deliciously evil to just be like, "La la la la, of course I'm not drugging you with Cortexiphan without your knowledge, la la la..." (Okay, a third thought: Nina knows how to make soup? Maybe she grabbed a can of Campbell's...) My mind was thoroughly blown by the hug, the "sweetheart," and the "I love you."
Next week looks good, though. ALTERNATES MEETING, YES, WHY IS THIS ONLY THE THIRD EPISODE TO MAKE USE OF THAT? Also, ASTRID-CENTRIC EPISODE, YAY!
