Oh, Castle writers. If you have your hearts set on writing a spy thriller--and honestly I don't know why you do, because your show has nothing to do with spy stories--you might check out a little show called Burn Notice, which at least manages to get its stories within spitting distance of believable about 90% of the time. They also take a stab at giving their villains motivation, and usually manage to keep the damage they can do within the realm of possibility. None of which you managed to do.
(Seriously, a last minute "oh, she was totally a Russian spy!"? Sure, it was obvious that Jennifer Beals's character was the mole practically from the moment the word left Gage's mouth, but your reasoning came down to "she was former KGB"? COME ON.)
You know, I can't think of a single redeeming moment of this episode. Not even one. The plot was bullshit, everyone acted kind of dumb, there were no funny moments, and let's not talk about the "Castle's father might have been a CIA agent!" can of worms they half-heartedly poked at, because that is really not something I'm looking forward to them pursuing, if they ever do.
Sigh.
