Castle: "Undead"

That was actually a really fun episode, once you ignore the Castle/Beckett stuff, and even that wouldn't have been so bad had it just come about seventeen episodes ago.
I enjoyed Pearlmutter, of course (I always enjoy Pearlmutter), and the zombie case was really well put together. Castle's strength lies in these kinds of episodes, ones that use a pop culture hook to both make twists in the case and allow the characters to snark with each other and shine in their own unique ways. Loved poor, gullible Ryan asking Castle if he really believed in zombies, and Castle saying no, but he likes driving Beckett crazy. Also loved Kyle waking up on the morgue table (for a moment I wondered if I'd wandered into an episode of Forever Knight by mistake), Beckett running after him, and Castle having to ask a very put-upon Pearlmutter how to call for backup. ("Is there a code for zombie attacks?") And Castle playing the zombie at the end (haha, wow, how the hell did pre-law jerk not see that setup coming?) and trying to scare Esposito, who pronounced him creepy, that was fun too.
The Castle and Alexis stuff was sweet, even if it was rather hackneyed. I was totally taken in by Alexis's gambit at the the beginning; definitely did not expect her to rappel down from the ceiling. And the "playing to a thousand points since she was five" thing was really cute.
I realized this time that I have really and truly lost all interest in whether Castle and Beckett ever get together. Like I said, the talking-around-the-issue conversation would've been nice round about episode three of this season, but at this point, I seriously considered muting it because I just. do. not. care. anymore. Thanks for nothing, Marlowe!
