I did watch Castle this week, but never got around to writing down my thoughts. It wasn't the best thing ever, but it was fun, and that's enough for me!

I'm just going to let myself get washed away (heh) by the soap. This is a soap opera, and I'm just going to go with it, because somehow, I'm actually enjoying the revelations and the tangled romances and the scenery-chewing and...well, okay, not the diva behavior of the leads, but three out of four ain't bad.

I also continue to enjoy landmark spotting. Like that horrible statue in the middle of Music Circle, oof. (Though geographically, it's all wrong--no way would Rayna have to drive through Music Row to get from what must be either Belle Meade or Brentwood to what I assume from the uniforms, the lack of overt Catholicism, and their social/economic class is Harpeth Hall. Eh, whatever.) Also Soundcheck, which is a giant rehearsal/musical instrument storage facility along the banks of the river. It flooded back in 2010, and millions of dollars of instruments were destroyed, but obviously it got back in action pretty quickly.

I was impressed at the beginning--I never would've expected the big idea Watty had at the end of the previous episode to be that Rayna re-promote Deacon from guitarist to co-singer on a smaller tour. I figured Scarlett would be much more involved (and taken advantage of). I liked being surprised.

I'm of two minds about the political plot--I'm glad they paid more attention to it and gave us deets on Coleman and his apparent relationship to Rayna & co., but whoooooa, Lamar just needs a handlebar mustache to twirl, you know? Perhaps they could tone him down a bit, or maybe a lot?

I like what they're doing to Juliette--I'm quite charmed by the idea of Deacon being someone who "makes [her] want to grow up," and I think the idea of a tween pop princess realizing she wants to do more in her artistic field than bubblegum country/pop is awesome--but they're doing it rather hamfistedly. Yes, I can see she's got more to her than meets the eye. You don't need to tell me this in dialogue.

That random ancient Chevy truck she owns was weird, though. Really? But Rayna's "What. The hell. Is that?" at Juliette's guitar gift cracked me up.

"You've been swanning around with Miss Sparklepants...!" *sporfle* Rayna and Juliette are both divas and that can be annoying at times, but it can also be very entertaining.

Ooooooh, Gunnar, stuck in some Music Valley* club? Ouch. That hurts.

Whoa, Rayna and Deacon were together for eleven years? I didn't get the impression last week that it had been that long. And ah, the spectre of his alcoholism raises its head. I feel certain he will be drinking again by season's end. It seems odd that she left him as soon as he went into rehab, if she kept on with him through the drinking years...but perhaps her oldest daughter has something to do with that.

Nevertheless, I may have squeed a tiny bit when she showed up at the Bluebird. Also when they sang a song I actually kinda liked. Not to mention at the handholding at the end. The show is obviously shouting, "HEY, WE WANT Y'ALL TO SHIP RAYNA/DEACON, GOT IT?" and I'm pretty much okay with it.

...Which is not to say I completely dislike Deacon/Juliette, because I kind of do, although pretty much only in regards to Juliette wanting to impress him and, I hope, growing/developing because she wants to along the way. I did giggle a little at her "OMG, I HATE YOU" face at the end, though.

That song was almost painfully on point for the not-quite-love triangle they're setting up, but I actually liked that. It's better than too-on-point dialogue.

* In case you were wondering, pick pretty much any geographic term, stick "Music" in front of it, and we have one. Music Row and Music Valley are polar opposites, though; where Music Row is characterized by record labels and money, Music Valley is filled with the smell of old grease and the sound of failure.
