Vorkosigan icon: TEMPORARILY RESTORED. (On LJ, anyway.)
Bwahahahaha. Well, we all knew I would enjoy this one, because 1.) Ivan, and 2.) marriage of convenience. EXCELLENT CHOICE OF PLOT DEVICES, LMB. Although sadly, Tej never really made much of an impression on me. I appreciated that there was an element of recasting Aral and Cordelia's, er, whirlwind romance in a more comedic vein with Ivan and Tej, but Tej remained really, really boring all through the book. Like, she and Ekaterin are battling it out for "main character about whom I care the least."
But, you know, it was funny most of the time, and downright hilarious at several points, and it was about IVAN, who finally got to show he is not in fact as hapless as he sometimes seems, and we got to run into a lot of lovely familiar characters (although minus Aral and Cordelia, whaaaaaat? Uncool!), and Alys and Illyan both got to be sneaky, and there were amusing in-law hijinks, so I'm happy. I definitely enjoyed it more than any of the Vorkosigan books since A Civil Campaign.
I think I need to do a full-scale reread of the series before I tackle whatever book comes next, if there is one (I'm still holding out for a Cordelia-centric novel set between Barrayar and The Warrior's Apprentice!), because I could tell there were references to many past events flying by at warp speed, but I couldn't remember what they actually referred to. Possibly because I read everything from Shards through ACC in one giant marathon when I was sixteen, which was some twelve years ago now. But yeah, all the Cetaganda and Jackson's Whole stuff in particular just whooshed over my head, sadly. On the other hand, I very much appreciated the bit where Tej got the whole Vor rank structure explained to her, because I've been needing that for some time.
Finally, it is just not a Vorkosigan book without some structure, often imperial, blowing up. Er. Blowing down? Tehehehehe.

I was going to write a bit about this week's TV, but I just don't have the energy. Plus it would be mostly complaints, anyway, so let's just skip it, shall we? Better luck next time for all three shows.
