I totally did a little dance when I managed the first one, right there in public, on skates. Yep.
Speaking of the public...
Dear teenaged hockey and public skater boys,
You're sweet. However, even if I were interested--which I'm not--YOU'RE NOT OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE YET. (How do I know? Because you tell me.) That officially makes you Too Young for whatever you think you're doing. Go pester the teenaged girls giggling against the boards. I know I look younger than I am, which is why I make a point of saying things like, "Anyone can skate! Why, I'm 29 and I just started, and look at me now! HINT, HINT."
That said, I also taught a little kid's dad to skate backwards today, and that was kind of fun, as it usually is. You skate public sessions with white boots and look vaguely competent, you wind up teaching a lot of people to skate backwards, what can I say.

I'm hitting the ice next week for the first time since last April. I'll be imagining a sitcom laugh track and wishing for bubble wrap.

Date: 2013-09-28 11:05 pm (UTC)I tend to go for the latter--five-year-old hockey boy who refuses to look where he's going during all of our pre-class practices, I'M LOOKING AT YOU--although some of them can be very polite.

No lie, I would like to wrap myself in bubble wrap before I skate. (I do wrap myself in cheap basketball knee pads, at least.)
