icepixie: ([China Beach] McMurphy stock)

I seem to have 4000 words of China Beach fanfic separated across three different fics. Huh. Funny how these things happen.

In completely non-coincidental news, I came upon a stream of "I Could Have Danced All Night...But Didn't," and since I had heard about this particular episode and was spoiled anyway, I couldn't resist. Serves me right; my heart is broken into a thousand tiny pieces, ow ow ow. And also ow.

On the other hand--show, you have officially convinced me of That Thing I Didn't Think You Could Convince Me Of. Very much so. Although it helps that I've realized McMurphy and Richard remind me of a mixture of Maggie/Joel from Northern Exposure and Fraser/Thatcher from due South with a sprinkling of Ivanova/Marcus from B5, and that combination is catnip I never even knew I wanted.

Although Richard's tendency to general assholishness toward McMurphy keeps popping up and being annoying, it's hard not to love a pairing where she finally quits dancing around the subject and comes out to say, "HEY, MORON, I LIKE YOU," before running off; he follows her so he can serenade her with "On the Street Where You Live" and basically pull her into a song-and-dance act in the middle of the hospital; and then in the next scene they agree to get married the next day. I, um, may have watched that scene a lot. Mostly because Dana Delany makes me melt into a puddle on the floor during much of it.

On the flip side, I am never going to be able to listen to "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" without sniffling after that geographically separated duet at the end. Not that I've ever listened to that song outside of watching the movie, but still. MY HEART.

Also, it's sort of hilariously appropriate that McMurphy's future husband is played by none other than Adam from NX, given his highly alleged Vietnam veteran status. McMurphy may be the only other person in the world besides Eve who can handle him.

P.S. This show is definitely going on the Yuletide request list.
