My two usual topics these days
Sep. 27th, 2014 01:59 pmEeeee, my China Beach S4 DVDs are here! I will try not to binge-watch this weekend, but I suspect that's a lost cause.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize Jan Wyatt in "F.N.G." is the same Jan from the second half of "The World." Like "after my second time through both of them" long. In my defense, the two actresses that play the character are at least ten years apart and look nothing alike.
(Part of me wants to read Wyatt/Singer fic, because awwww, especially at the faceoff over the volleyball net. And ouch, of course. But awww.)
Apparently I missed some stuff my first time through "The Gift," or at least didn't comment on it. Is there a deleted scene floating around out there that would explain Richard's "She's a cold-hearted vixen who toys with and breaks men's hearts, but the sex was great" comment to Soubra in re: McMurphy? Because that's the only explanation I can come up with for that line. I guess he could be speaking for Vinnie and possibly Bernard, but Richard and McMurphy's whole deal was that they didn't sleep together, so the personal quality of that remark just befuddles me. He...was joking? Poorly?
I also belatedly noticed Libby and Lila's "Does she remind you of anyone?" / "Some days more than others" exchange, also in re: McMurphy. AWWWW. And Libby was supposed to be the KC figure, wasn't she, ambitious and somewhat morally suspect? Yet like KC in the recent episode "Phoenix," dependent on Lila to lie for her.
"Strange Brew" made slightly more sense this time around, but I'm still not wild about the structure. It was McMurphy's dream within a dream (she dreamed she was drunk on the helipad dreaming about the weirdness with the Native American dude at Firebase Geronimo), but KC randomly got scenes as well? What?

Today I learned a toe loop! My inside three turns have actually stuck around for more than two weeks, so I can do the entrance and the jump! Hahahahaha, okay, it's totally still a step at this point, but my half flip went from a step to a jump eventually, so this'll happen.
My proto-salchow is inching toward being a real salchow. Today we positioned my feet better in the middle part. Give it another year, maybe.
Speaking of proto-moves, I learned a proto-sit spin, which to my great shock and astonishment is easier than the proto-scratch spin I've been working on since February. Keep in mind, I am in no way doing a real sit spin, and it's unlikely I ever will given my knee issues; I just don't think I'll be able to get my butt at or below the knee of the spinning leg, given the pain my attempts at a shoot the duck have caused. But bending my knees even a little bit and hunching forward actually keeps me on the right part of my blade for more than a microsecond. WHO KNEW.
