Mad Men through 6.4
Jun. 18th, 2015 09:59 pmOH THANK GOD Peggy finally sought competitive offers and took one like she should've done years ago. I know why they had her stay, it would've been hard narratively to keep her at another agency, but hooray, she finally got what was waiting for her and escaped Don's shadow.
That said, I figured they were going to get her back somehow, but merging SCDP with CGC was not at all how I thought they would do it! Kudos. That was a big surprise.
Also a big surprise: Joan being made a partner and the circumstances behind it. Season five was really Joan's season, wasn't it? She's such a badass. (I'm also loving her one-sided war with ditzy Meredith. "Surprise! There's an AIRPLANE here to see you!" And "We were at, 'Meredith, will you step out for a minute?" / "Well?" Hah.)
Sally is turning into such a little jerk. It's the tiniest bit annoying to watch, but I so enjoy how much her parents hate it that I don't care. It was nice to see Bobby get a storyline of his own recently too.
Someone mentioned somewhere that season six was the season of everyone performing variations on their various character flaws to lay groundwork for self-revelation in season seven, which is helping me get through yet more affairs by various people, most especially Don. At least he's starting to hate himself for it. Uuuuuugh, just quit trying to be married, it obviously doesn't work for you, buddy. Peter, you might do the same. Although it seems like Trudy has well and truly kicked you to the curb, finally, yaaaaay.
Speaking of everyone falling into bed with everyone else, I rolled my eyes a little at the hints of Peggy/Ted, but I can't deny Ted is way more interesting than Abe, who obviously exists purely to remind everyone this is the sixties, man, hippies and counter culture, yeah.
Well, okay, there's Paul. Oh, Paul. Somehow I'm not surprised he wound up in the Hare Krishnas and wrote a terrible script for Star Trek.
