Apr. 3rd, 2003 09:41 am1. What does your first name mean?
Rebecca: Depends on who you ask. Most common seem to be "To tie, to bind" or "ensarer." I quite like the last one. Mwahahaha.
2. What does your middle name mean?
Elizabeth: God's oath, etc. etc.
3. What does your last name mean?
"From the homestead/estate by the slope." Hey, we do have an ancestral castle somewhere in the northeast of England. It's sorta hilly up there, right? There's also apparently a town by that name in Cumbria/Lake District.
4. So what does your name mean when put together?
The ensnarer who follows God's oath and comes from the estate by the slope?
5. What would you have been named if you were the opposite gender?
Gabriel. Dunno about a middle name, but it wouldn't surprise me if it had been Arlington, Box, Rankin, or maybe McKeehen or Reeder.
6. Any other name oddities?
Named after both my grandmothers (paternal first, maternal middle). I only go by Rebecca with parents and teachers and such. Mostly it's Becca, 'cause that's just shorter. And people are quickly deterred from calling me "Becky." *spits* I have an irrational hatred of that nickname.
7. Do you like your name?
It's all right. I guess I like it well enough.
8. What do you like best about it?
It's nice and flowy when you say the whole thing. And long! Mwahaha.
9. What do you like least about it?
Oh my God, people. There are a million and ten ways to spell "Rebecca," but mine is the most common. If you're taking a stab in the dark, go with the most common one. Not "Rebbeca," "Rebbekah," etc. etc. Gah. And I spell my last name out loud every time I say it. Because if I don't, it's invariably written down as "Hilton." (Okay, the Tennessee accent that slightly changes "e" to "i" doesn't help, I admit, but dude.) Distant relatives, y'all. Came over on a different boat.
10. If you *had* to change the name (witness protection or what ever) what would you use?
Hmmmm. I'm rather partial to Gabrielle, or maybe Sabrina. Something Gaelic might be interesting.
