Well, I swan. [Icons]
Aug. 29th, 2004 02:01 amMostly random assortment of thirteen icons, connected by either swans or Irish poetry. Oh, wait, except for two. Oops.
Er, yes. All photos from the fine folks at stock.xchng, a brush or two from
quebelly and
saava. All are shareable; all I ask is that you save them to your own hard drive and credit me in your userpics. Feel free to add text or whatever to any of them, especially the two base-like ones.
Samples:

The first batch is inspired by/uses quotes from "The Wild Swans at Coole," by W. B. Yeats. I was gonna do that cool thing
josephides did several months ago, with text having links to icons using the text, but the middle stanzas don't really lend themselves to iconage, so that died a quick death. You can read the whole text of the poem here, though.

The other batch quotes various other poems or generally concerns swans, as the case may be.

(Tried to fit the whole "peace is dropping slow" line from "The Lake Isle at Innisfree" on here, but it wasn't to be)
111.
(From "The Pomegranate," by Eavan Boland) 12.
(Robert Frost, "Stopping In The Woods On a Snowy Evening") 13.
Yes, I realize I need to lay off the English major crack.
Edited 'cause it's three in the morning and I forgot my favorite of this batch...

Date: 2004-08-29 05:02 pm (UTC)All I did for that particular image was add an "outer glow" around the text layer. You do that by typing some text, then going to Layer->Layer Style->Outer Glow. You can change the color, opacity of the glow, size, etc. by fiddling with the sliders. Another thing in that box to play with is the contour--click on the little arrow beside the box made up of a grey and a white triangle to get the pre-set ones to pop up. You can make all kinds of interesting effects with those.
