Just getting around to reading the newest episode of Bagenders. Yaaaay Christmas special! And ROTFL at this conversation between Thranduil and Legolas:

"And that’s why you were one of the greatest archers in Middle Earth!”

“It was learn or die.”

“Character building. Made you what you are today.”

“Depressed and selling tea and coffee on the trains?”

“That’s not the point. We brought you up proper. Not like those degenerates in the sitting room.”

“Whose dad owns half of Scotland-”

This earned Legolas another cuff around the ear. “Money isn’t everything, lad. We were poor, but honest.”

“We weren’t either! We were moderately rich underhand bastards!”

“Yeah, but we weren’t Noldor.”

*cackle* If you haven't been introduced to the joy that is this series, you really ought to go check it out.

Y'know, when I saw ROTK and got to the credits, I couldn't associate Annie Lennox with LOTR. The mental disconnect was just too much. But the more I listen to "Into the West" on the soundtrack, the more it's growing on me. Is pretty...

Shockingly enough, I'm making headway into The Silmarillion at a pretty good clip. I'm somewhere in the "Of Eldemar" chapter; Galadriel just made her first appearance in the listing of the children of...uh...well, his name starts with an F, and his brother is Fingolfen and his father is Finwë. Too lazy to go into the den and look it up.

Anyway, as you may notice, I'll never remember the vast majority of these names. But once you realize that this is essentially some funky combination of the Christian Bible, Norse mythology (*snicker* the Valar are the Asgard), and Saxon and Viking history (at least as far as I can tell), it's not too hard to read. Plus now I finally know who this Aulë that every mention of dwarves eventually refers to is! Yay! And who knew that Middle-Earth was merely a continent, not a world? *pause* At least, I think it's a continent. It's possible that reading this will provoke more questions than it answers.

And for some completely unknown reason, I feel like finishing my semi-massive Farscape AU that I started way back in early 2000. Dude, I have no idea. Basically, Aeryn, not John, goes through the wormhole, and gets major culture shock when she crash-lands on Earth. Heh.

And because of all this I have had to say far away from all the pretty new brushes I discovered in Photoshop. So yes, [livejournal.com profile] chiroho, I'm actually seeing the light of day. Well, I'm seeing the light of day through a different window than the one by my computer, anyway. ;)

Happy New Year!

So, for those Farscape fans out there (which would be, oh the vast majority of my friends list ;)), I have a couple questions pertaining to that AU thing I mentioned a couple posts back.

First, especially for DeeeeeKaaaaaay fans, did he ever get a last name on the show? I'm blanking completely.

Second, any opinions on what books John would own, and, out of those, which one(s) he would recommend to Aeryn as representative of human culture and/or literature? Obviously, I'm thinking lots of sci-fi, but Aeryn's reaction to SF TV has already been briefly covered in the fic, so I kind of want something else. SF would work, though...
