Date: 2005-04-04 05:16 am (UTC)Years ago, back when Spade was doing The Hollywood Minute on SNL and Eddie Murphy's career was in the crapper (and that's the nice way of saying it), Spade took a moment during a HM segment to show a picture of Murphy and said "Look at that. A falling star." At the time, as said by Spade, it was really funny and it really pissed Murphy off (especially since there were a few years around 1980 when Murphy was literally the only good thing about SNL).
My understanding is that Murphy still carries this grudge even though he's a bankable movie star again and Spade is second fiddle on 8 Simple Rules.
So, yes, you would get it. But it probably isn't anywhere near as funny having it described. It's more of a "had to be there" kind of thing.
