I finally got around to watching the recorded eps of Firefly I had (just the two-part pilot, or first two, or however they number their eps...whatever they showed on Sci-Fi last week). It's...not bad. Which is a better reaction than the "eh" it got the last time I tried to watch it, so hey. I think it might be the Western element that I'm not sold on. Or maybe it's that everybody MUMBLES ALL THE FREAKING TIME WHILE TALKING REALLY FAST and I have to turn on closed captioning to understand half the words that come out of their mouths, which always aggravates me.
I recognize that it's good, and the ways in which it is good, and it made me giggle a few times, and I love the music, and I was interested enough to watch all of these and make plans to watch the next few, but it has yet to really grab me, you know? It must be a Whedon thing, 'cause that's how I felt about Buffy and Angel, too.
So...more eps. And since people such as
asinpterodactyl seem to be into it, I imagine I'll go along if a big group of people go see the movie in Mt. Vernon (especially if I like the other eps).
That said, I think I'm a little in love with Jayne. Hee. He's definitely my favorite character.

Hee, I can't wait til you see "Jaynestown" then. I was kinda *blink, blink* about it the first time, but it gets funnier every time I see it.

Date: 2005-08-03 03:26 am (UTC)It's not so much that I like it, but rather that I must resort to it IF I WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON. Apparently all the sound guys working today missed the course on mixing music and dialogue so that the dialogue can be heard over the music.

Date: 2005-08-03 10:42 am (UTC)Buffy and Angel never grabbed me, but Firefly did, in the same way that Farscape did (but more so). I'm glad you're watching more, and I think you may find your opinion changing for the better.
At least, I hope so!

Date: 2005-08-03 04:41 pm (UTC)I think it might actually have something to do with the Sci-Fi Channel, 'cause I've noticed the same problem with the two Stargates on both of our TVs here and sophomore year in the Mather Wellness lounge. DVDs I watch, on the other hand, don't really have that problem of the music being louder than the dialogue.
Or maybe I just need my ears checked.

Maybe so, maybe so.
