Apr. 16th, 2006 02:28 pmHeh.
Yeah, enough plotholes to drive a fleet of trucks through (Cassandra decides she's okay with dying thirty seconds after she said she wasn't? Okay! A thousand new diseases and none of them are airborne? Whatever! All those diseases they're researching and they actually have cures, which can be transported instantaneously by touch? Sure! All this talk of there not being any more pure humans, yet there are thousands of them wandering around the hospital? Why not?), but it was frothy and bubbly and pretty, and for a Russell T. Davies script, I don't expect much more. (The man would be fabulous at teleplay writing of someone else's stories; we could have logical plotlines and snappy dialogue at the same time.)
Plus, SHIP, OMG. Not even just the Cassandra-in-Rose/Doctor kiss, although that was pretty, but the fact that the Doctor and Rose are even more coupleish than before, with the handholding and the linking arms and the "Give her back to me" and the "I loveyou traveling with you." Aw. I may implode of cute.
Also, David Tennant feeling himself up was jsut a bit creepy. But in a good possessed-by-an-alien way. Heh. All hail David Tennant! (And Billie Piper doing a totally different character!)

Date: 2006-04-16 08:12 pm (UTC)To be fair, they're probably not pure humans. They have bits of alien in their grandparents and their cousins and mixed up all over the place, and presumably said aliens have to be pretty humanish for them to, y'know, breed.
That is all. Everything else - word. I don't like RTD's scripts, ever. Bring on Moffatt!
(Um. I'm Raven. I have friended you. I hope you don't mind.)

Date: 2006-04-16 09:30 pm (UTC)Well, true. Particularly in light of the Doctor looking rather human himself. It did seem like a missed opportunity, though...although I suppose doing anything more than lame Bajoran noses or Klingon foreheads on that many extras would've been out of budget. Sigh.

I really like EOTW and Bad Wolf, and I enjoyed Boomtown. Not as much of a fan of POTW, and my hatred for AOL/WWII knows no bounds. He's kind of a mixed bag for me; I think when he really focuses in on one, relatively simple, plot and has time to build a lot of character moments around it, it works better than when he's trying to juggle several different threads. I think I sort of write the same way, so I have some sympathy for what seems to happen to some of his scripts. Still want to see him do teleplays of stories thought up by more plot-competent folks, though. *g*

Bad Wolf is a joy. Boomtown - I think that one also suffers from the NE problem in that there are too many plot threads in it. As you say, he's fabby with character stuff. I just think that next to episodes like the Empty Child and TDD, his ones flag a bit.
You have indeed seen me round

Date: 2006-04-17 05:34 am (UTC)Bad Wolf may in fact be my favorite episode. The big reveal of the fleet of Daleks gets me every time. I haven't watched Boomtown in a while; I don't remember an excess of plot threads, but I may have just been so amused by the Doctor and Margaret/Blon's interaction that I *handwave*d them all away.

Oh, definitely. Those two get better every time I watch them.
