Okay, now that was creepifying. Very creepifying. So much so that I rather wish I were not already going to be having nightmares because I'm sixty pages into a book about Dracula, 'cause this is just going to amplify them like whoa.

Anyway. Yay for creepy! And tensiony! And the Doctor-not-acting-like-an-assery! There was a noticeable reduction of smugness/arrogance/hubris in this, at least to my mind, which was a great relief. I have to admit, I sort of enjoyed seeing Rose and the Doctor go, "...oh, shit" even as I was wondering how they'd get out of this one right along with them.

The pacing felt really on this time around, which is really nice after the uneven start to the season. It was a more cohesive "Part 1" than "Rise of the Cybermen," which felt much more like it was just marking time and setting up plot points for part two. This one was interesting in its own right.

Also? SQUEE. You all know why I'm saying that. *does the happy shipper dance* Hugging! Kissing-on-the-space-helmet! And did Rose just kinda-sorta-almost-but-not-quite propose to the Doctor? 'Cause I think she did. That's generally sort of implied with "we could share a house and a mortgage." At least, in my experience it is. Hee! That scene's gonna get played a whole, whole lot more. The Doctor facing enforced settling down = love. Not because I want him to do so, but because I'm really interested in how he's going to react to it. (Also, "I'll have to get a house. With...doors, and carpets. Me in a house?" Comedy GOLD. DT is awesome.) Of course, I suppose technically we sort of saw that in GITF, what with the whole "slow path" thing. I suppose, since the TARDIS will undoubtedly be unearthed by the end of the next episode, we won't get much in the way of that, but it'll be interesting to speculate on. [1] Also, TARDISes are grown on Gallifrey? Awesome. (The TARDIS is becoming more and more like Moya every episode. *g*)

- I was skimming through the TWOP forums, and...someone over there compared the Oods' faces to Cthulu-meets-vagina dentata. I am now SCARRED FOR LIFE. I thought you all needed to be as well. *scurries away* I liked their little light-up ball that does their speaking for them. Also, Rose sticking her nose into the whole slave race thing felt very in-character; a callback to her camaraderie with Gwyneth in "The Unquiet Dead."

- It's ROCCO! It totally took me half an hour to figure that out. Whoops. But yay, Rocco! Hee, and he's still snarky. Aw.

- All of the other people on that space station (er, planet station? oil rig writ large?) all looked familiar to varying degrees. Scooti looked a teeny tiny bit like Raelee Hill (aka Sikozu on Farscape), and whoever played Toby looks incredibly familiar. I've never seen the guy in anything else, but he reminds me of someone. It's gonna bug me until I remember who it is.

- Speaking of that station--I realize I'm probably the only person to think this, but it really reminded me of that very short-lived Sci-Fi Channel series from the late '90s, Mission Genesis. It had that same gritty, metallic, harshly-it look, with a lot of young people running the show. Totally different plot, but visually very similar.

- Was that a musical theme from Star Wars at the end there? Was it? It sounded really familiar, but I don't really know my Star Wars stuff. Maybe something else equally well-known? I know it was taken from something.

- And speaking of music...tell me I was not the only one to, upon hearing "Bolero," immediately have a Pavlovian reaction of expecting to see Torvill and Dean and those purple costumes. Please?

- Finally: ALIEN PLANET, YAY. With a black hole thrown in, too!

So yes, you can assume I liked this one for many reasons. :)

Especially in light of Eight having lost his TARDIS for the entirety of the Divergent Universe thing. He was definitely shaken by his new vulnerability, and I'll be curious to see how this affects Ten after he settles from his very justified shellshock.

I sort of enjoyed seeing Rose and the Doctor go, "...oh, shit" even as I was wondering how they'd get out of this one right along with them.

Yeah. This is what I felt was missing a bit from RotC/AoS. Since the Doctor fixed the TARDIS right away, you never got that "we're totally screwed" thing.

Also? SQUEE. You all know why I'm saying that. *does the happy shipper dance* Hugging! Kissing-on-the-space-helmet!

So. Cute.

And did Rose just kinda-sorta-almost-but-not-quite propose to the Doctor? 'Cause I think she did. That's generally sort of implied with "we could share a house and a mortgage." At least, in my experience it is. Hee!

I KNOW! HEE! And them both getting freaked out about it. HA! They're so cute.

All of the other people on that space station (er, planet station? oil rig writ large?) all looked familiar to varying degrees.

Didn't they? It's going to drive me bats. I swear I've seen the acting Captain before.

They are! So awkward and cute! I've been kind of "eh" on the whole Doctor/Rose thing for a few weeks, but this has totally rekindled my love for the ship.

Yeah, the awkwardness felt really S1. Kinda an "I really love you BUT I'M NOT SAYING THAT LALALALA." *squishes*

Have you seen Casanova? He played Rocco, DT's manservant. (It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that out.)

I haven't seen that but now that's even more cute that the actors knew each other from before! :D

Becca, I lurrrrve you!

I have to admit, I sort of enjoyed seeing Rose and the Doctor go, "...oh, shit" even as I was wondering how they'd get out of this one right along with them.

Yup! It's all fun and games until someone loses a TARDIS!

Mortgages HAVE NEVER BEEN THAT CUTE. EVER. Think how awful it would be to watch this on actual tv, when you can't immediately replay things? Oh, the horror!

Of course, I suppose technically we sort of saw that in GITF, what with the whole "slow path" thing.

Yeah, but GITF was more of a "oh, lala, slow path, nifty, fine, let's lie so as not to make Reinette feel horribly guilty about getting me stuck here," whereas TIP was more him letting on a little of how truly freaked out he was. TIP felt like a slightly more.. honest reaction.

It's ROCCO!

THAT'S where he's from! And the hug was definitely up there with the high points of the episode. Bwah!

Was that a musical theme from Star Wars at the end there?

...no, don't think so. (Would've cost jillions in copyrights, anyway.) I'll watch it again (just for you, of course) and give it another listen...

(BTW, please do send that one on to Chandra, as I put some of the music on there with her in mind.)

Yeah, gonna send on "Idiot's Lantern" and this one in one packet this weekend.

...I kind of want to icon that.

I have to... go... now....

Perhaps something less expensive.

Like your mom?

I remember Mission Genisis! It was on Saturday mornings for, like, three wees or so when I was little-ish. I think I even watched it for those three weeks... Can't for the life of me remember what it's about, but I remember Mission Genisis, dammit!

Yeah, that's it! With lazer guns! Or, wait... I think that might have been Power Rangers.

ANyway, I do know what series you're talking about, even if I can't remember anything else about it. :)
