BSG 4.03: The Ties That Bind
Apr. 18th, 2008 10:01 pm- Oh, look. To no one's surprise, the Cylons shot last week downloaded into new bodies. Ho-hum.
- Errr, Cally? Trying to commit suicide with all those pills?
- Again to no one's surprise, Cally&Tyrol and Sam&Kara are having marital issues. (They seemed to make a theme out of having two situations start out similarly and end very differently in this episode...)
- Oh, dear. Poor, paranoid Cally.
- Er. Is Tory going to turn out to be evil? I'm getting that impression here.
- "Caprica City had been my teacher, my mistress..." What potboiler is this ripped off from? Hammett? (Although the rest of it was sweet, when being read from Adama to Roslin, and she was obviously appreciative of the layered meaning.)
- OMG! Laura knew about Kara's trip before she even went on it?! Well, I guess Bill could have told her after Kara had safely jumped away...that's probably what happened. But still, shock! Also, oooooh, BURN. No harmony between Mom and Dad there. (I wonder if he told her after that scene in sickbay?)
- Whoever did the cinematography on this one was on a roll. I like.
- If Helo and Sharon are both on the garbage scow, who's looking after Hera? (Hope it's not Tory!)
- Hmmm. While I like the Kara-attempting-to-use-homing-instincts-for-Earth plot, I do hope we don't end up with a bifurcated storyline like in S1. That got annoying after a while. Get everyone back together in a few weeks, please?
- "Trinary system"? Did they just say that in reference to Earth? Uh, sorry, guys...
- Heh. I liked Cavil's astute observation that only the Centurions were cleaning up the blood. Making the Centurions sentient is going to come bite everyone in the ass soon, I'm sure...
- Six, I wholeheartedly agree with your idea of uniting the Cylon models, because that would be awesome, and also we would know who the final one is. (I'm still going with Zarek, particularly after his speech about being on the sidelines and seeing lots of stuff while there. Fits right into my pattern, he does.) Of course, the humans might want to gather up some superior firepower before that happens...
- So, they're really pushing the Roslin = Bush angle this week, aren't they?
- GOOD QUESTION, Cally! Why DID you marry him after he beat you up? I've been wondering that since S2.
- Awww, I was so hoping Anders would walk out there. Alas.
- Interesting that Kara, like Cally, can't seem to feel. However, the newly-revealed Cylons are open to lots of new sensations. (Most especially Tory, who seems to have caught Baltar's sex addiction.) I think this builds a stronger case that Kara isn't a Cylon.
- Perhaps you should just call her Bush and get it over with?
- Ooooooh, Lee, you should watch your back. And be careful around airlocks.
- Aha! I wondered if Cally would be the first to find out about the new Cylons. Didn't think it would happen quite that way, but I did think it would. Kind of figured that she would try to kill Tyrol. Did not expect the suicide attempt.
- And I REALLY didn't expect Tory to become the new Madame Airlock! I was sure that Cally would let Tory take the baby for a second, then slam that button and send all three of them out into space.
- So...Tory's an ends-over-means person, then? I guess we knew that from the election fraud. Still, eeek.
In sum, I quite liked this one, although I did have a bit of a soft spot for Cally and am sad to see her gone. (Unless she's the final Cylon! Heh.) I feel like I might quickly grow impatient with the Demetrius storyline, mostly because I still find Kara annoying as hell. But if we can leave off her personal life, I think I'll deal better. Oooh, and maybe they can actually find Earth?
*
Warbirds looks so horribly bad that I might have to watch it. Female WWII pilots run into raptors? Seriously?

Continuing my music video theme from earlier this week: does this not look like something Darren Nichols would've had a hand in? hee.

Date: 2008-04-19 12:46 pm (UTC)I really wanted Anders to walk away too. Poor sap. How can he possibly love her that much?
Lee's a whiny little bitch and I dislike him more and more every week.

I have NO CLUE. I've wanted to airlock her since sometime in S1.

I've never really liked Lee, but I think I did like him in this episode; didn't find him whiny at all, although I usually do. I'm looking forward to seeing him as a politician.

Date: 2008-04-20 10:17 am (UTC)Oh yeah! I totally remember that now that you said it. And then Sharon came back to Galactica with the baby? So yeah, who the hell IS looking after her?!
I've wanted to airlock her since sometime in S1.
Yup.
didn't find him whiny at all, although I usually do.
I didn't so much find him whiny specifically in this episode, so much as I find him whiny in general and he pissed me off in this episode because I love Laura Roslin irrationally much, to the point that I don't want people (especially people I didn't like in the first place) to undermine her, even when she's being a scary dictator.

Date: 2008-04-21 03:02 am (UTC)I'm pretty sure. We've seen her and Helo parenting Hera since then.
So yeah, who the hell IS looking after her?!
This would be evil, but...Maya?
Yup.
Yay! Someone else who doesn't worship at Starbuck's altar!

Heh. Well, there is that. Although I think she's definitely at the point where she could use some undermining...

Date: 2008-04-19 04:50 pm (UTC)This Björk video certainly is ... something special, and her bell dress does look an awful lot like Darren's chess-piece costume design for Juliet in S2.

Date: 2008-04-20 04:23 am (UTC)That was my very first thought upon seeing the video.

Date: 2008-05-10 03:51 am (UTC)Although it would be interesting if Cally is the last one . . . but I like the Zarek idea more. I am going to adopt that as my cylon guess from now on.

Date: 2008-05-10 05:04 am (UTC)Eeeeexcellent.
Yeah, Zarek just fits the pattern I'm seeing so strongly...I feel like he has to be it, or I'll almost feel played. Well, unless they come up with even more cast-iron reasoning for whoever it is than the reasoning for Zarek, anyway.
