Thoughts on the XF marathon
Jul. 24th, 2008 11:18 pm- Even after eleven years and resolution of the storyline, "Memento Mori" is no less heartbreaking. :(
- "Bad Blood" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen it before, actually, which is a travesty that has now been remedied. ("Large intestine, 829 grams...yadda-yadda...") And Brent Butt was the coroner! Hee!
- "Milagro" is a lot creepier than I remember it being. Like, a whole whole lot. (Of course, pretty much the only thing I remember clearly from it the first time around is "Agent Scully is already in love." What can I say, I had a one-track fannish mind as a fifteen-year-old.)
- And "Beyond the Sea" was pretty damn creepy, too. Of course, Brad Dourif kind of embodies creepy, so perhaps that was to be expected. Still. *shiver* Although possibly the creepier bit was Mulder continually calling Scully "Dana." Although I did enjoy her little "WTF?" reaction each time he did it. (And awww, it's Hammond!)
- "The Host": Fluky! I knew I remembered that episode from something. Heh. Although I think the real monster in that episode was whoever gave Scully a haircut that included bangs. Wow, mistake.
Hmm. The only things I'm getting from those eight episodes as a unit are: psychics and psychic crimes, creepy men who like Scully, and Scully-is-an-emotional-punching-bag. I have a sudden fear that everything in the movie will turn out really, really badly for her. Please let me be wrong about that. (I am in fact going to brave the crowds and go to an early afternoon showing tomorrow, in hopes that most other viewers will be at work and not the theatre. Wheee!)

In other news, has anyone else heard iTunes's single of the week for this week? Anyone else think this girl is the spiritual lovechild of Björk and Tim Burton? I like it, but wow, if you told me it was a Björk song, I would totally believe you.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!
!!!!!!!
TRAVESTY! Also, one of my favorite episodes EVER. The shooting out of tires! The slide show! The unreliable narrators! "They've pulled up stakes"! Love.
I can only hope that the movie is about OCD trailer-trash vampires. Alas, I suspect not.

Date: 2008-07-25 06:02 am (UTC)I probably would've done the same if I hadn't been on vacation while they played the marathon. I don't think it'll matter.
(Um, Sarah and I may already have gotten tickets... doot de doooo...)
I'm hoping I won't get to the theatre and not be able to get a ticket...
TRAVESTY!
I know!
The shooting out of tires!
This. Also, the fact that there's a runaway RV that's running in circles is pretty inherently funny.
My favorite part might ahve been Mulder flinging the sunflower seeds in the hotel room, and Ronnie saying, "What'd you have to go and do that for? You are in big trouble, mister." And the fact that it takes place in Cheney, Texas. Bwah!

Alas, I concur. I have a feeling heartache is ahead, though. (Although at least it's heartache in Vancouver again, rather than LA! The whole tone of the series was just off after the location switch.)

Date: 2008-07-25 05:02 am (UTC)Okay, that's just WRONG. He said/She said! The magic fingers! The buck teeth (I still have trouble with Luke Wilson movies)! The look on Skinner's face! Shooting out the tires on a moving car! God, that ep is classic...

I'm trying to approach this like the reunion concert of your favorite band from junior high when the relevant band members are all forty and haven't belted in ten years. All I'm really hoping for is nostalgia and in-jokes, and if we get anything else, it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Mmmm, point. I'm hoping for the odd creepy moment, and nothing that will make me lose my cool and start sniffling (like MM did AGAIN today). Beyond that, I remain hopeful, but expect nothing.

Date: 2008-07-25 08:26 am (UTC)Milagro is one of those epis I just watch for the shippy bits and kind of ignore otherwise well today I paid attention for probably the first time since I'd seen it and was surprised by how I'd forgotten how great an episode it was beyond the shippiness! I mean the creep factor alone on the psychic surgery! And that scene with the kids in the car at the make-out point place! Seriously well done!
And yes Mulder calling Scully Dana in Beyond the Sea = SUPER weird! *L*
Hope to hear what you thought tomorrow afternoon. I'll be on my second airing as I went to the midnight showing tonight. :)

Date: 2008-07-25 10:20 pm (UTC)Yeah, Milago is surprisingly amazing. I really didn't remember how utterly creepy Padgett was until yesterday.

I was giggling a lot during "The Host" because I used to put together manuals for the machines that operate all the sewage processing pumps and things. Wastewater was a big department in my building.

Date: 2008-07-27 12:30 am (UTC)Ah, okay, Mine was spotty in season 4. I'm still not sure if I've watched all of them in the right order. Trying to translate s4 XF spoilers from Dutch was an interesting task.

Haha, really? Cool!
I watched it as part of viewing party recently and I can remember thinking was "Ew!" and "Wow, you guys are like this after only a year? You guys are in trouble!"
