Hulu + [livejournal.com profile] rowdycamels being a TV addiction crack fairy = I think I might possibly be hooked on Bones.

Crap.

Aren't they on, like, season four or five now? Oh, dear. (Since it's on Fox, and it doesn't suck, that's rather amazing.)

3 papers + 4 weeks left in the semester + 2 exams + 4 seasons of Bones = MY HEAD ASPLODE.

Maybe it'll go downhill from the pilot and I can stop watching? Or maybe I'll just catch up over Christmas break. Or work out some method whereby I really truly limit myself to one every week. (I really, really don't have time for more than that. Oh dear god.)

(Re: impressions of the pilot: fairly heavy-handed exposition and point-making, but not terrible for a pilot; Brennan/Bones/Temperance/whatever she actually goes by is even more socially awkward than I am, which is comforting and horrifying at the same time; I'm kind of shocked that David Borwhatshisname isn't imitating a plank of wood; I'm glad they got the Mulder/Scully ref out of the way in the first five minutes, because...yeah; their FBI boss is bald, just like Skin-man!; the music is annoying; they gots cool electronic goodies at the Jeffersonian Institute of Whatever It Is (can you tell how much I was paying attention to detail?); I thought the bone lackeys were funny, but they seemed a bit scripted (maybe it's the pilotness of it); ZOMG BLATANT UST LIEK WHOA.)

P.S. Ellen, I hate you.

I think this is S4 of Bones. It will go uphill as S1 progresses and you get into S2, and then it will go downhill, but not until the last episode of S3, which is the reason I no longer watch. And that is all I shall say about it so as not to ruin anything for you. ;)

Nope, nope, nope, and nope. Not even close. And I am really not going to tell you anything more than that! If you knew, it would really color the way you watch the show.

I suppose I should give them credit for doing something slightly original, but that would require forgiving them, which I'm not prepared to do yet...

I, too, tried resisting Bones, but its my parents to blame, not some episode-flaunting friend.

Still, I failed... failed, failed, failed, and fell insanely hard for the show to the point where it now has partial soul ownership. I just couldn't resist the Best Friends Forever aspect between Bones and Booth.

I got into it around the end of season three, though, so I don't know if that bit has developed yet in the first season.

BTW, a friend of mine and her sister did [livejournal.com profile] bonesrecaps through S3. They're a lot of fun, spending a lot of time in S1 making fun of things that don't work/don't make sense even though they still love the show. For whatever it's worth...

Seriously, if you liked it after the premiere then you're already gone *G* It's in S4 right now. Good luck on the catching up of it :)

HEEEEEEE!

Yep, episode 8 of season 4 airs this week.

Brennan/Bones/Temperance/whatever she actually goes by is even more socially awkward than I am

Oh, man, totally. Half the characters are much more socially awkward than you are in some way or another. I find it very endearing.

There's a lot of ridiculousness -- sometimes there is a need for a "nothing works that way!" sign -- but it's a very fun show. I truly have a fondness for all of the characters.

I think someone below mentioned it just after you posted.

::looks:: Nope.

Ha! Excellent! Because, really, as awesome as the show is, sometimes you just have to shake your fist at it in the name of all that is sane and sensical. And there is SO much drinking game potential... *facepalm*

And perhaps disturbing, in a "you might think about counseling for that" sort of way.

Hee. Wait, counseling for me, you, or them? ;) Bones was a bizarre child. I do find the forthrightness of the squints oddly comforting.

I knew from the first shot of their shiny, shiny lab with all the shiny, shiny equipment that all the shiny was obviously there to make up for seriously shoddy science. :D

Some of it's good, actually. Other things are more "dude, that would never happen, but since it is, let's go with it."

Yes. In fact, pretty much anything one might worry about isn't a worry. It's rather odd. Fun though!

MUAHAHHA!

But don't worry! Hulu only has the first season complete - they've got a smattering of newer episodes, but after the first season finale, you'll want to go in order because an arc opens up. (This is what just happened to me this morning, arg!) So really you've only got one season to torture yourself with?

Maybe it'll go downhill from the pilot and I can stop watching?

Season 1 has pretty consistent quality. A few episodes were bad, but there were more than enough delightful ones to balance them out.

fairly heavy-handed exposition and point-making, but not terrible for a pilot

Yeah, it's anvillicious at times, but it's just so cute in the process!

Brennan/Bones/Temperance/whatever she actually goes by is even more socially awkward than I am, which is comforting and horrifying at the same time

The Awkward is one of the key reasons for my love. Unrealistic at times (EVERYONE UNDER EVERY ROCK HAS HEARD OF MULDER AND SCULLY ESPECIALLY FORENSIC NOVELISTS!!!), but lovable nonetheless.

I'm kind of shocked that David Borwhatshisname isn't imitating a plank of wood

I know!! He grew acting skills since Buffy! Who knew??

I thought the bone lackeys were funny, but they seemed a bit scripted (maybe it's the pilotness of it);

they do improve.

ZOMG BLATANT UST LIEK WHOA

OMG YES AND IT ONLY GETS BETTER!!1!

Wait for the Christmas break -- it was made for over-indulging in food and television. I'm saving my friend's Babylon 5 boxsets for this occasion.

You do, and there is. And the recaps they put together are a lot of fun as a result. I don't think they've done any this year, though. Not even sure that they're still watching.

Foolish person. This type of situation was what Netflix was invented for!

coughcough my first dvd arrives tomorrow cough...

But at least with Netflix, you can only blow through three or four episodes and then you've gotta stop and wait days for new dvds. It limits the insanity just a little.

Ummmm... I'm trying to talk myself out of getting a Kathy Reichs book when I stop by the library this weekend...
