I did all kinds of work today, so I'm rewarding myself with a mini-Bones marathon.
After four episodes total, I have to say...Zack is really, seriously creeping me out. NO, REALLY. It's not charming awkwardness, it's probably not even Asperger's, it's sociopathy. And he, uh, knows a lot about cannibalism.
Brennan and Booth get more Mulder and Scullyish with every episode. Look, they're even off to the PNW by Booth's request with practically no warning for Brennan! Although I get the impression he won't be ditching her a la Mulder too much. (BTW, I adore Brennan's boss-dude. Hee!)
So, yes, that's my night.
ETA: And the music on this show...who chooses those godawful rock songs? Ugh. I'm no fan of the most of the instrumentals, either. Bleh.

Date: 2008-11-04 03:44 am (UTC)Zack is a strange bird indeed and probably has some sort of disorder, but I'm not sure what you mean by sociopath in this case. He doesn't seem to fit any of the symptoms (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/antisocial-personality-disorder/DS00829/DSECTION=symptoms). Note that sociopathy has been renamed Antisocial Personality Disorder. I think the difference is that folks with ASD don't care about other people while Zack doesn't seem to understand other people. Erm, you can't tell that we have a copy of the DSM-IV in the house, can you? ;)
Goodman, aka Brennan's boss dude, rocks!
I have a feeling the music gets better, but may not be the best judge. I did like "Bring on the Wonder" by Susan Enan, which you can listen to here (http://www.myspace.com/susanenan). The oft-used music montage gets a bit wearing though.

Merely that I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a serial killer/mass murderer. I probably shouldn't conflate the terms. (But he does creep me out. Really.)

He may very well be my favorite character. ROCK.

I'm nine episodes in, and it seems to be getting steadily worse. :(

That's not bad. I object to the fact that they play the music so loud you can hardly hear the dialogue sometimes, and that 99% of the time, the music has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
The oft-used music montage gets a bit wearing though.
I hate that part more than words can express.

Date: 2008-11-04 03:59 am (UTC)I just wish that Hulu would put up season 2. I've seen all of S1 and most of S3 via them, plus actually watching the current season on fox, but no S2, which is making my 'watching things in order' compulsion twitch. Are you spoiled about the current/recent goings on?
As for Zach, He's one strange fellow thats for sure, but he grew on me after a while. A little.

Date: 2008-11-04 07:35 pm (UTC)The stiltedness of the writing is deeeeefinitely getting old, yes.
The Booth/Brennan Banter is what keeps me coming back. They make me think of Mulder and Scully but without the bitterness and paranoia and Booth is way less prone to the ditching, as you say.
That's a perfect description of them! For some reason they kind of remind me of David and Maddie from I<>Moonlighting, too--I think it's a combination of the Christian man/atheist woman, and that the guy girl has to rely on the guy to explain things about pop culture/real life she's missed out on.

I'm planning to watch S2 on Netflix, then continue on with S3 and S4 on Hulu or Netflix. Perhaps I'll be caught up by June. :D I'm not really spoiled for much--on Wikipedia, I stumbled across what happens with Zack at the end of S3, but beyond that I'm basically in the dark and not actively trying to spoil myself, btu not policing myself too heavily either.

The Christmas episode humanizes him a little, but whoa. Serious creepy vibes from that kid.

Date: 2008-11-04 04:20 am (UTC)The music itself is mostly okay (except when they make it into the center of the montage-itude, ew), but it's too LOUD. Instrumentals should not drown out dialogue!
(Keep an eye out for episode 9. Cracktastic!)

YES. Except the music sucks, as well as being too loud.

Saw that one just now, actually. Egads, the schmaltz. I think I need a bath. (I may possibly be avoiding how very likely it is that I will eventually turn into Brennan re: Christmas by focusing on the sentimentality...)
