Got my final disc of S2 Bones today, which only includes one episode before hitting the special features.

Wow. So, um, pretty much everything about this episode fell completely flat. I was rather amazed at how poorly everything worked out.

First of all, they are not going to make me have any appreciable amount of sympathy for the murderer of the week, so trying to relate her back to that ultra-cheesy video Brennan's mom made her? Insulting. Second, Angela and Hodgins can't get married because Angela's already married? Seriously? I'm sorry, did Netflix send me a DVD of Guiding Light or something? Bones, you tried way to hard to be funny there, and it was an epic fail. The randomness with Angela's old rock star father (whoever he was) was also annoying.

Finally, whoa; all the girls' clothes at the wedding were terrible. Brennan and Cam looked like boho refugees from the eighties. Angela's hood/veil thing was...well, first of all, it was a hood. With sequins. Ow.

However, Zack in Iraq does have some interesting possibilities...aside from the alliteration, of course. Heh. And if there aren't a million and one B&B fanfics out there with the reception as a setting, I will eat my hat.

Is Hart Hanson Canadian? There was definitely an "oot" in the special features. It would go far toward explaining the suspicious Fraseriness and RayVness of B&B....

So, um, pretty much everything about this episode fell completely flat. I was rather amazed at how poorly everything worked out.

I, um, liked it? A lot? I liked that they tried to explore Brennan's character in a new way (tried, at least), and I loved the cracked-out wedding. It was just not even pretending to be the standard schmooze, and I appreciated that.

First of all, they are not going to make me have any appreciable amount of sympathy for the murderer of the week

I had a little sympathy. She was seriously, seriously messed up, but... there was a little sympathy. Enough to not burn her kid's artwork in front of her, at least.

that ultra-cheesy video Brennan's mom made her

I like how in the commentary they tried to pretend that Brennan and that actor playing her mother looked anything at all alike? I mean... they were white? And of a similar build and hair color? But facially, nopers.

Second, Angela and Hodgins can't get married because Angela's already married? Seriously?

But they'd mentioned that marriage before! In S1 somewhere! I remember it! Continuity, people! Appreciate it now, because it'll whisk away again before you know it!

The randomness with Angela's old rock star father (whoever he was) was also annoying.

But it was just SO random that it was hilarious! Her dad is, for no good reason, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top! And Hodgins is in love with him! Cute!

whoa; all the girls' clothes at the wedding were terrible.

Okay, I'm with you there. And they should stop putting Brennan in teeter-tottery heels, because she looks SO awkward and uncomfortable and unattractive. They do nothing for her at all. Cam almost managed it, but... no.

it was a hood. With sequins.

Um, have you met Angela? If anybody's gonna be all, "I know! Arwen with sequins!1!", it'd be her. *facepalm*

The ending seemed to have abandoned dignity for camp, but... hey, it was pretty amusing. And a nice break from "I murdered my sick kid with my AIDS meds."

I did not appreciate the manipulation. ZOMG the killer is JUST LIKE MOMMY!!1!eleventy!!1!!! Ugh.

True, it is starting to get old now that they've done it with like five different episodes....

I disliked that the sympathy came from the situation with Brennan's mom. Feh.

I saw it the other way around: that the case was supposed to lend sympathy to Brennan's mom. Although the sympathy didn't come until the reveal that the AIDS drugs hadn't been working and she had thought she was dying, and that was pretty late in the episode...

There was commentary? Huh. Missed that.

You didn't miss a whole lot. Vaguely amusing, but no more.

She doesn't need heels like Scully needed heels, you know?

Awww, poor Scully and her stilts.

I liked how in that one episode they were trying to tell us that Sully was a midget and Booth was "freakishly tall," and yet in the very next scene the two men were walking side by side and were within an inch of each other's height...

I miss dignity. :(

I have a feeling we won't be seeing much of it in the future...

They haven't exactly given up on being a procedural, but it's definitely on the back burner to the jokes and the sarcasm and the camp.

Hmmmmm.

Yeees. I've had about as much as I can take of Brennan's family issues.

I think her family has a lot of interesting plot potential, but they just aren't using it much. So far it's just Brennan swinging back and forth between "I love them!" "I hate them!" "I love them!" "I hate them!" If we could get some forward motion there, that'd be awesome.

If that's the case, it works even less for me, because I have no sympathy for the AIDS lady, while I had a tiny bit for Brennan's mom.

Heh. You are BOUND AND DETERMINED not to like that plot, huh?

Oh, beware of the "play all" feature of the S3 DVDs; there are extended versions and missing scenes of some of the episodes linked only to the episode's play-screen.

Oh, hmm.

David Boreanaz is 6'1". He looks...not that tall, since he's always standing up against the freakishly tall women on this show.

On Buffy he was an absolute giant, since Buffy is practically Scully-sized. But yeah, he looks awfully normal here.

(I think poor Hodgins might be the shortest cast member.)

Even Cam might be a teensy bit taller than him. I'm sure all the other main cast are.

...We don't.

*coughcoughtalktomewhenyouseethelatestepisodecough*

Would you like a cough drop there?

I remember seeing a picture of them where she's basically standing on her toes to kiss him and he still has to practically crouch. I laughed.

Um, yeah. I do remember hearing about crates involved there, as well...

"Oh. He played football. Right."

I want some backstory about Booth's hockey days!

(Is it a bad thing that he sometimes reminds me of Brian? Especially when he gets angry?)

BWAHAH! Except Hodgins has more social graces. (Except for that one time where Hodgins smushed Zack's puppy and made him all emo!! Bad Hodgins!)

If you feel like giving up in S4, it does get better in the last few episodes.

Uhhhh....

*COUGH*

WOULD YOU LIKE A TB TEST?

Hodgins is basically fake-pummelling Zack behind his back for several seconds and looking very enraged. I always think of Brian then.

Hee! I can totally see that.
