Dec. 3rd, 2008 10:28 pmGot my final disc of S2 Bones today, which only includes one episode before hitting the special features.
Wow. So, um, pretty much everything about this episode fell completely flat. I was rather amazed at how poorly everything worked out.
First of all, they are not going to make me have any appreciable amount of sympathy for the murderer of the week, so trying to relate her back to that ultra-cheesy video Brennan's mom made her? Insulting. Second, Angela and Hodgins can't get married because Angela's already married? Seriously? I'm sorry, did Netflix send me a DVD of Guiding Light or something? Bones, you tried way to hard to be funny there, and it was an epic fail. The randomness with Angela's old rock star father (whoever he was) was also annoying.
Finally, whoa; all the girls' clothes at the wedding were terrible. Brennan and Cam looked like boho refugees from the eighties. Angela's hood/veil thing was...well, first of all, it was a hood. With sequins. Ow.
However, Zack in Iraq does have some interesting possibilities...aside from the alliteration, of course. Heh. And if there aren't a million and one B&B fanfics out there with the reception as a setting, I will eat my hat.
Is Hart Hanson Canadian? There was definitely an "oot" in the special features. It would go far toward explaining the suspicious Fraseriness and RayVness of B&B....

Date: 2008-12-26 06:10 am (UTC)Yeees. I've had about as much as I can take of Brennan's family issues.
I saw it the other way around: that the case was supposed to lend sympathy to Brennan's mom. Although the sympathy didn't come until the reveal that the AIDS drugs hadn't been working and she had thought she was dying, and that was pretty late in the episode...
Interesting. If that's the case, it works even less for me, because I have no sympathy for the AIDS lady, while I had a tiny bit for Brennan's mom.
You didn't miss a whole lot. Vaguely amusing, but no more.
Mmmm. Oh, beware of the "play all" feature of the S3 DVDs; there are extended versions and missing scenes of some of the episodes linked only to the episode's play-screen. I don't think they show if you just watch it all the way through.
Awww, poor Scully and her stilts.
And her apple crates.
I liked how in that one episode they were trying to tell us that Sully was a midget and Booth was "freakishly tall," and yet in the very next scene the two men were walking side by side and were within an inch of each other's height...
I remember the "freakishly tall" comment, but not the two of them walking together. Hee!
I was surprised to find out that David Boreanaz is 6'1". He looks...not that tall, since he's always standing up against the freakishly tall women on this show. (I think poor Hodgins might be the shortest cast member.)
I have a feeling we won't be seeing much of it in the future...
...We don't.

Date: 2008-12-27 03:15 pm (UTC)I think her family has a lot of interesting plot potential, but they just aren't using it much. So far it's just Brennan swinging back and forth between "I love them!" "I hate them!" "I love them!" "I hate them!" If we could get some forward motion there, that'd be awesome.
If that's the case, it works even less for me, because I have no sympathy for the AIDS lady, while I had a tiny bit for Brennan's mom.
Heh. You are BOUND AND DETERMINED not to like that plot, huh?

Oh, hmm.

On Buffy he was an absolute giant, since Buffy is practically Scully-sized. But yeah, he looks awfully normal here.
(I think poor Hodgins might be the shortest cast member.)
Even Cam might be a teensy bit taller than him. I'm sure all the other main cast are.
...We don't.

Heh. You are BOUND AND DETERMINED not to like that plot, huh?
Because it SUCKED.
On Buffy he was an absolute giant, since Buffy is practically Scully-sized.
Oh, I forgot about that. I remember seeing a picture of them where she's basically standing on her toes to kiss him and he still has to practically crouch. I laughed.
But yeah, he looks awfully normal here.
Until you see him in a doorway and realize he's basically taking up the whole thing, and realize, "Oh. He played football. Right."
Even Cam might be a teensy bit taller than him. I'm sure all the other main cast are.
*checks IMDB* Apparently Tamara Taylor is half an inch shorter than TJ, but she wears stick heels all the time, so she looks taller. Poor Hodgins. (Is it a bad thing that he sometimes reminds me of Brian? Especially when he gets angry?)

If you feel like giving up in S4, it does get better in the last few episodes. Have faith.

Um, yeah. I do remember hearing about crates involved there, as well...
"Oh. He played football. Right."
I want some backstory about Booth's hockey days!
(Is it a bad thing that he sometimes reminds me of Brian? Especially when he gets angry?)
BWAHAH! Except Hodgins has more social graces. (Except for that one time where Hodgins smushed Zack's puppy and made him all emo!! Bad Hodgins!)

Crates are so useful.

SMOOSH SMOOSH SMOOSH. There's a clip I've seen in a lot of vids, but I can't remember the episode--Hodgins is basically fake-pummelling Zack behind his back for several seconds and looking very enraged. I always think of Brian then.
Uhhhh....
Just saying, 'cause I nearly gave up for a while...

Date: 2009-01-04 01:15 am (UTC)I got an e-mail the other day from one of the other students in my program. Apparently there's a curling club in Knoxville. They're having an open house or something this weekend.
