So the first disc of S3 came today, and of course I had to watch it, because...not much better to do until my prof e-mails us the questions we're supposed to prepare for the exam. Which she still hasn't done. The exam's Monday morning. I'm getting somewhat concerned, actually.
Anyway. Since I can't do much, having already studied myself to death for my later exam, here's some ramblings:
- Caroline Julian is LOVE and should be in every episode. Which she practically was!
- Angela started to go back to the bitchy valley girl type persona I hated in S1. It was mostly in the first episode, though. I think she might be over it now. Hope so, anyway. Maybe it was can't-find-my-vacation-husband nerves.
- Some genius in DVD production put the gag reel on the first disc of the set. Grrr. I hope it was all vague enough that I won't be spoiled for the rest of the season--beyond what I already am, anyway.
- Also, I know the season was shortened because of the writers strike, but do they really have to only put three episodes on a disc? Boo.
Widow's Son in the Windshield
- *gasp* They listened to me! There wasn't a montage at the end! OMG!
- I adored Clark, but Zack coming back was still sweet. Poor workaholic, misfit Zack. (Okay, every time they cut off more of his hair, he looks younger. He went from fifteen to ten to five.)
- The Booth-throwing-Brennan-to-the-floor-and-covering-her-for-way-longer-than-necessary did give me a chuckle.
- I like the continuing case aspect. Makes it seem like there's a patina of reality going on, seeing as a good number of cases that wind up at the FBI tend not to be solvable in two or three days, I would think...
- That really obvious matte background of the various DC monuments was...really obvious. Seriously.
- Um, actually, if you want to be pedantic, the center can't hold. < /Yeats scholar >
Soccer Mom in the Minivan
- For real, guys, just send DB and ED to Washington, shoot the scenes there over few days, and bring them back. The matte backgrounds are terrible.
- Oh dear god, Agent Boobs. Tack-eeee. Did enjoy Hodgins completely going off her when she was going to destroy the air filter.
- Poor Max. Show, you have made me feel sorry for a criminal.
Death in the Saddle
- Just when I had almost forgotten that this airs on FOX, along comes this episode to remind me. *cringes*
- I had to go to IMDB to find out why "Annie Oakley" looked so familiar; apparently she's been in SG-1, Forever Knight, and due South, among other, mainly Canadian productions. Hey, it's that girl!
- Brennan making horse jokes was hilarious. As was Booth being all, "I know the answer because I have a FIVE-YEAR-OLD."
- So the hypnosis was...cracky. And then scary. Hmmm.
- Brennan's fashion choice of the business-suit-with-long-shorts was not a good choice.
- *clunk* *can't talk because an ANVIL flattened me during that last scene*

Date: 2008-12-25 08:56 am (UTC)Which she practically was!
Along with... her hair. Aieee.
Angela started to go back to the bitchy valley girl type persona I hated in S1.
This subplot is losing my attention...
Some genius in DVD production put the gag reel on the first disc of the set
I know! So inconsiderate! I got a few clips in and had to stop for fear of spoilers. : ( Are there spoilers on the other extras?
Poor workaholic, misfit Zack.
Awww, and now he's getting angst, too! Little Zackaroni is all growed up! Except for the hair... I keep expecting Brennan to show up bald next, the way things are going. (Hodgins!! Hodgins whyyyyyyy??? You were so cute and puffy! Much like Zack was!)
The Booth-throwing-Brennan-to-the-floor-and-covering-her-for-way-longer-than-necessary did give me a chuckle
Some gags just never get old. But Brennan! Closing your eyes is a very reasonable reaction! If you get blown up, there's gonna be a lot of particulates in the air, right? And you don't want them in your eyes! Trust the person in the room who's been blown up most recently!
That really obvious matte background of the various DC monuments was...really obvious. Seriously.
I just couldn't hear that first conversation at all, I was so busy gaping at the awful.
Um, actually, if you want to be pedantic, the center can't hold. < /Yeats scholar >
Perhaps that coffee had some crack in it...
Did enjoy Hodgins completely going off her when she was going to destroy the air filter.
Haha, science-rage! And I would be muuuuuuch more irritated with that whole arc if Hodgins did not have the Midas Touch of Adorkable with every scene he's in.
Just when I had almost forgotten that this airs on FOX, along comes this episode to remind me. *cringes*
Can you imagine not being familiar with this show, and surfing past this ep on FOX, and just... staring? And then never watching FOX again?
Brennan making horse jokes was hilarious.
Oh Brennan, never stop being awesome!
Brennan's fashion choice of the business-suit-with-long-shorts was not a good choice.
TOTALLY. The camera just casually zoomed out on that, and I almost choked. It was like those YouTube artists who don't bother wearing pants to film in because their legs are off-screen. Great thing about this show: you never know when a random LOL is coming.
*clunk* *can't talk because an ANVIL flattened me during that last scene*
Awww, but it was a cute anvil. Booth is so earnest!

Date: 2008-12-26 12:41 am (UTC)Yay! Ohohoh, you need to get to S4 ASAP, because there have been Events, and I need someone to
mockdiscuss them with! (Are you spoiled in any way for the rest of this season or for S4?)Why are these discs so short? Stupid strike. : (
This is the only one with three episodes on it. Discs 2-4 have four each, and disc 5 includes the first four or five episodes of S4. (I don't know why.) So that's nice.
Along with... her hair. Aieee.
Er, yes. I'm ignoring the hair, because ow.
This subplot is losing my attention...
Angela has lost my attention...
I know! So inconsiderate!
ARGH!
I got a few clips in and had to stop for fear of spoilers. : ( Are there spoilers on the other extras?
I didn't watch them, so I couldn't tell you. (I didn't want to be spoiled.) I watched the whole gag reel, though, and I don't think it reveals anything huge.
Awww, and now he's getting angst, too! Little Zackaroni is all growed up!
He is!
Except for the hair... I keep expecting Brennan to show up bald next, the way things are going. (Hodgins!! Hodgins whyyyyyyy??? You were so cute and puffy! Much like Zack was!)
I thought Hodgins's haircut/beardtrim were tragedies, but they grow (or, um, not-grow?) on you. I got used to it by the fourth or fifth episode, anyway.
Some gags just never get old.
Indeed.
But Brennan! Closing your eyes is a very reasonable reaction! If you get blown up, there's gonna be a lot of particulates in the air, right? And you don't want them in your eyes! Trust the person in the room who's been blown up most recently!
See? LOGIC!
I just couldn't hear that first conversation at all, I was so busy gaping at the awful.
OMG yes. They need to just fly the actors out to DC for a couple days, film the scenes, and come back. The backgrounds are heinous.
Perhaps that coffee had some crack in it...
Possibly...
Haha, science-rage! And I would be muuuuuuch more irritated with that whole arc if Hodgins did not have the Midas Touch of Adorkable with every scene he's in.
Hodgins has saved a lot of craptacular scripts. TJ Thyne is amazing.
Can you imagine not being familiar with this show, and surfing past this ep on FOX, and just... staring? And then never watching FOX again?
Yep. But first I'd check to see if I'd wandered onto the Playboy Channel by mistake.
Oh Brennan, never stop being awesome!
And dorky!
TOTALLY. The camera just casually zoomed out on that, and I almost choked.
YES. Wow, that was awful. I notice she never does it again, which is...a good choice.
Great thing about this show: you never know when a random LOL is coming.
Haha, yes.
Awww, but it was a cute anvil. Booth is so earnest!
I think the writers could use some subtlety classes for Christmas...

Date: 2008-12-26 02:43 am (UTC)mockdiscuss them with!I'm trying! This disc will be mailed back soon!
(Are you spoiled in any way for the rest of this season or for S4?)
My spoiled knowledge:
1) There is Christmas kissing somewhere
2) Angela is gay (???)
3) Zack has some sort of scandalous personal arc, possibly involving criminal activity
I have no more details than that, and I wish for none. Stupid accidental spoiling!
Angela has lost my attention...
Dear show: we do not need a foil to see Brennan's awesome! It is perfectly visible from right here!
I didn't watch them, so I couldn't tell you.
Eh, I will skip as well. Stupid dvd-crafters!
but they grow (or, um, not-grow?) on you
pun DENIED. Says Deny!Booth.
I'm getting used to it, but...I still miss the fluff.
The backgrounds are heinous.
Is it *really* that important to have the reflecting pool in the shot? Wouldn't a generic park satisfy the budget-sensitive?
TJ Thyne is amazing.
He can make ANY dialog sound good. He could also hit on someone using only the text of a scholarly article on mud.
But first I'd check to see if I'd wandered onto the Playboy Channel by mistake.
I think the Playboy Channel has slightly more self-respect.
I think the writers could use some subtlety classes for Christmas...
Aw, but then what would we mock?

Date: 2008-12-26 06:03 am (UTC)Meeeeep!
1) There is Christmas kissing somewhere
Tee hee. My mood theme will officially not spoil you!
2) Angela is gay (???)
Something related to Angela (not necessarily that) came out of nowhere for me in S4. It was what made me decide to fling any kind of spoiler-free status for the coming episodes out the window, because I can't handle things like what they threw at me cold.
3) Zack has some sort of scandalous personal arc, possibly involving criminal activity
*is very quiet*
I have no more details than that, and I wish for none. Stupid accidental spoiling!
Awww. That is the problem with starting shows when they're four seasons ahead of you. I was spoiled majorly for 1 and 3 before I saw them.
Dear show: we do not need a foil to see Brennan's awesome! It is perfectly visible from right here!
Yep!
Eh, I will skip as well. Stupid dvd-crafters!
It looked like more of the little featurettes that were on the S2 DVDs, which I found very boring, so I doubt we're missing much.
pun DENIED. Says Deny!Booth.
Mrrr.
I'm getting used to it, but...I still miss the fluff.
It grows out a bit later. Not to S1 levels of floof, but better.
Is it *really* that important to have the reflecting pool in the shot? Wouldn't a generic park satisfy the budget-sensitive?
Perhaps they want to counteract the fact that half of their shots look like they were filmed in California?
He can make ANY dialog sound good. He could also hit on someone using only the text of a scholarly article on mud.
I know! I'm pretty sure he's the best actor on the show.
I think the Playboy Channel has slightly more self-respect.
This is possible.
Aw, but then what would we mock?
Heh, true. I still don't know why this show only has four recaps on TWOP.

Hmmmm...
That is the problem with starting shows when they're four seasons ahead of you.
I got accidentally spoiled by scrolling down too far on HULU. NOT FAIR.
Perhaps they want to counteract the fact that half of their shots look like they were filmed in California?
You meant there AREN'T palm trees in DC??
I know! I'm pretty sure he's the best actor on the show.
Even a few of Emily Deschanel's lines fall flat here and there, but not his. I am in awe.
I still don't know why this show only has four recaps on TWOP.
I know!! Maybe the cannibalism turned them off? Still, you'd think they would've picked it back up again when it didn't crash and burn after 1 season.

I got accidentally spoiled by scrolling down too far on HULU. NOT FAIR.
Awww. That sucks. I took my life in my hands when I went to Wikipedia to look up something about the show, and got spoiled pretty good that way.
You meant there AREN'T palm trees in DC??
Of course there are!
Even a few of Emily Deschanel's lines fall flat here and there, but not his. I am in awe.
I kind of wondered if ED was a stick figure for the first several episodes, but she seems to have grown into the part. TJ has definitely proven himself to be the best. (Although Tamara Taylor is actually quite good as well. Nice comic timing.)
I know!! Maybe the cannibalism turned them off? Still, you'd think they would've picked it back up again when it didn't crash and burn after 1 season.
For realz.
