Ellen, are you and I trading back injuries? Because yesterday I did the same thing you did, except my incident was getting off the couch. And then I did it again last night turning over in bed (I'm surprised my parents didn't hear me screaming), and ended up at the doctor today because OMG OW. Being unable to stand up because of lower back pain is a bad thing. (And then once I could stand up, I couldn't bend over, so my mother had to tie my shoes for me. *fail*)

Apparently it's three strained muscles. Wonderful. They gave me a shot of ibuprofen which has so far had zero effect, but I'm getting a prescription filled for a muscle relaxer, so good times ahead? Or at least sleepy times, since I didn't get any last night because of PAIN PAIN PAIN NO MATTER THE POSITION?

Owww. That sounds very unfun. ::sends lots of pain meds and healing vibs:: ::adds virtual morphine just in case::

Hope you feel better!

My personal reccomendation is Naproxan (prescription strength Aleve). When I threw out my back sophomore year, that's what they gave me.

Whatever it is they're giving you, I hope you feel better.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! (Three muscles at once? Way to overachieve!) I second Kate's suggestion - I've heard Aleeve is better than ibuprofen at back pain, but I didn't get that advice until after I didn't need it anymore... I have heard even better things about muscle relaxers. From personal experience, I can only recommend constant napping for several days, and don't forget to eat, even when it hurts, because if you do then you feel like falling over, and falling is soooo not something you want to do right now.

Um, you're gonna need some tv, basically. Prescription-strength. Go play on Hulu. The best thing to do is distract yourself from thinking about OWOWOWOWOW PAIN.

How is your brokenness?

whatever it was is apparently something my body doesn't recognize as a painkiller,

Uh, yeah, when I went to the ER after getting thrown off a horse, they gave me morphine for the pain, only... a tiny minority of people are completely unaffected by morphine? Including me? OW OW OW.

Then again, I'm never far from the ibuprofen container, so I'm not sure how I'd be doing without drugs.

Eh. It took me about a week to get off the constant ibuprofen. Reduced swelling is good for you!

Were they able to give you something else?

Nope. They were like, "you'll be fine! Just rest!" I went home and took lots of ibuprofen. : (

I've only had my wisdom teeth out, and after that they gave me some little pills that made me sick (oxycodone, maybe?), so I didn't take more than the one dose of them. Uhhh pretty much OTC painkillers and me are like *this*.
